Every time i drink a bruery sour i remember why i stopped buying bruery sours
We split their most recent Jester King collaboration four ways a few weeks ago and it was...fine. Inoffensive is about the most generous thing we all felt about it. I used to really like Rueuze, so I’d be curious about checking that out at some point.

Trying to make my way through the last two hoarders small batch boxes and i wish i could just the stouts. The sours are such a chore.

Yesterday, I went to a local tapping of a mega-hyped, bay-area brewery's first BA Stout. I thought it was thin and one note. The folks I was with all agreed. But hey, it's their first. It was by no means bad. But I'd never seek It out again.

After that wemt to a spot 5 mins away tapping Morning Delight and another TG BA stout, (Oil something). Those beers blew away the other one, by comparison. At least the TG hype is backed up.

Cut to social media exploding with EVERYONE in all their groups proclaiming the local hyped brewery's......multiple "fire" emojis. WTF?

I wanted to call them out, but What's the point. They would attack like crazy. I know we all have different palettes, etc. But man, maybe I'm just the old guy in the room now.

Was the local beer expensive? I see people justifying their expensive, yet mediocre beer purchases by proclaiming how good the beer is (when it’s not really).

Also, I finally had Assassin and Mornin Delight in the past month, and they were both really, really damn good. I was wondering how good they could actually be, since I drink Fremont all the damn time at $20 a bottle or so, but man, they were really damn good. Are they making more of them with TG’s new facility?

Nah.

Not bad. 6oz pour of beer and .5 oz of the Eligah Craig 11, from the barrel it was aged in, for $12. The EC11 was fantastic!

Also, forgot to mention, a local Bay Area shitlord legend showed up 2 hours early to a non-existant line, because he thought there would be a secret bottle release of that beer. There wasn't.

The kicker....he also brought his mom to mule for him.

I’d love to see his cellar.

Did he bring throwing knives?

I was in Baltimore for New Years a while back and we went out to brunch and along with bottomless mimosas you got pitchers of Natty Bo.

I'd still probably drink Gansett or High Life on the regular but you couldn't beat that deal.

Gansett and high life are my go tos, but natty boh and old bay chips is tough to beat

Bought a 12 pack of Nugget Nectar cans today.

This use to be one of my favorite local beers that I drank the **** outta. I opened one and struggled to finish it. What a buttery, grass laden mess. ****, the quality of Troegs beer has really gone to hell since moving to Hershey yet im dumb enough every year to buy this garbage hoping its even remotely similar to the beer I use to love.

A lot of the scratch series beers are good IMO.

Rocklin is hardly Sacramento let alone bay area. ;)
But yeah good luck voicing a different opinion in some of those local groups

Why do sheep follow the pack?

If a beer sucks or is sub par or is simply not worth the hype call it as such.

Hype only exists because people allow it to exist. If a beer is simply average, let it be average.
Lots of hype beer I don't like and I get told all kind of ways I must be wrong. Hell just yesterday, I was involved in a conversation about the closing of the Chicago Hopcat, and my commentary got a random stranger to respond with what was effectively "you should smile more" response because I pointed out all the reasons why the location failed. Sorry my responses were not dripping in sunshine and rainbows. The location was not here very long and it did not surprise me in the slightest.

This is the perfect summary of barrel culture. Locals were constantly hyping it but the beers were too ******* acidic to even share. Bottles leaked when shipped, some blew up due to being bottled with excess residual sugars, and some never carbed. It was a shitshow to say the least.

You forgot the best part: when I was accused (by the fanboys, not by anyone from the brewery) of trying to intentionally hurt the trade values of the beer (seems like a weird thing to do given that I was a member of their bottle club, but ok) by sending a bad one to dontdrinkbeer. I actually hadn't tried the one I sent him, I picked it mainly because it was the only one I had more than one of. It was definitely very bad though.

That DDB post may have singlehandedly smashed trade value for BC overnight. That, or people actually started drinking the bottles they were getting in trades.

Lol then I in turn was accused of being a co conspirator to nuke a brewery I knew nothing about

THIS GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP

Two beer thoughts from this weekend.

1) Nightmare Brewing's Scaphism, a 17% Imperial Stout brewed with milk sugar, honey, Tahitian vanilla and cacao is surprisingly dangerously drinkable. Surprising both because of the ABV and vanilla (which I didn't know was in there before ordering the glass).

2) It's February, which means it's doppelbock month at Hoffbrauhaus. It is unsurprisingly dangerously drinkable.
