Shiner is making an 11% ABV Barrel Aged Marzen?

The ****?

Alright... special LIF if anyone wants to play. Please use hashtag #shinerbuild in your post (because this thread is long) and include a Texas or Disney meme. Whomever gets the closest, to the penny, at the grocery store I go to (HEB) to how much I pay for 1 bottle of this will win a bottle (assuming I’m able to get 2). Will pick a winner as soon as I get one and will alert on here and via PM. Price is Right rules apply if two people are within the same amount of cents.

Keep in mind a bomber of regular Shiner is like... $1.99. Their highest ABV Beer ever is like 5.7
Update... I haven’t been able to find this stuff yet and no stores have posted that they have it.

Gonna try to look at the more specialized supermarkets in central-er Austin tomorrow.

we just started getting Crooked Stave. apparently today. the IPA, von Pilsner, St. Bretta, Mama Bear's Sour Cherry Pie, Sour rose and Wild Sage

feels like anything is possible now

Bummer no surette. $5 / 375 I bought a ton of those when they showed up here. We didn't get von pilsner though. The wild sage is really good too.

I remember being psyched about getting CS. I can't remember the last time I bought anything of theirs. [shrug emoji]

Also haven't had any of their stuff in a long time. Surette and Surette Reserva were great back in the day. No Upright, but serviceable.

Von Pilsner is my jam. Crushed so many 6 packs since we started getting distro. Such a great beer for the price.

This place is over 3k square feet and brand new. Lulz

Not beer, but the kid from Big Daddy (and that Zack and Cody Disney show) is making mead now.
1) There is a mead thread under Whiskey Wine and Other Booze 2) We know. I’ve been there. Dylan is nice and making solid stuff if you like dry meads but he only has 2 flavors. A 2 month barrel aged show mead and an Oolong Tea.

I'm actually planning on doing a batch of earl grey tea mead or cider next time I brew.

Tea in an underutilized beer adjunct imho.

Someone just tried to Craft-splain to me about how Spoetzl/Shiner isn’t craft beer so they won’t be carrying the Shiner BA Marzen because they’re “not craft”. They carry the entire line of 6 packs btw.

I pointed out that they have an entire fridge of Budweiser products and walked away.

Amazon must be lashing the people at Whole Foods. All their good people left.

Craft-splain
Holy ****, that's the best term I've ever heard, and it explains SO MANY PEOPLE in this hobby (us included at some point I'm sure)

We recently got a kegerator in the office, and our first keg was a Pizza Port beer. One of my coworkers was the only one without a pint, and upon asking him why he's not drinking, he said, "nah I don't really drink that stuff, it's whatever, nothing special." When I asked him what was his ideal keg, he started Craft-splaining about this small LA brewery called "Monkish" and how they make this style called a "hazy IPA" that blows everything else out of the water.

The other day I read that Amazon is seriously cutting store budgets while expecting much more out of them than they were previously required and that they're also bringing in shittier food and getting rid of the stuff the ******** who shop there like.

Their headquarters/flagship store is pretty close to my office...

They seem to be leasing out a lot of what was their ready-to-eat food space to outside vendors (they had a taco bar and a pizza bar that are now completely gone). They're currently ripping out a lot of what was their hot food area to install a restaurant (Next Level Burger).

Also you can't turn your head more than 5 degrees without seeing an Amazon ad.

I mean, I was always a Central Market [Specialty food store run by HEB who is the big local grocer] guy anyways (their vegetables are way better and way cheaper), but I know that Whole Foods is the only kind of this type of store in a lot of areas.

I second Central Market, the one in Houston has a much better produce (both fruit and vegetables) section, and the CM meat market is second to none save going to a legit butcher shop

The Seattle WF region lost their beer buyer a couple years ago (he started up The Shambles if you're from here or been here recently, so it's not all bad) and put the wine dude in charge of everything. They cut back on the "fancy/barrel aged selection" and replaced it with liquor and we don't see as many of the big releases there anymore, which is a shame because it's the closest store to my house.

Same thing w WF in my area. They've lost several beer people in a row and now there's hardly anything new and exciting beer wise. Also, I hate getting asked if I'm a Prime member every time I check out.

I was just at a WF in downtown Austin last week. Man that place was crowded!

I haven't been to that WF when visiting my in-laws in Omaha for a couple years now. If I don't make it to Beertopia, the random HyVee's out by them seem to have just as good of a selection.
