quick disconnects not fitting?

i dissembled my qd after use of my keg. i do this all the time. for some reason the qd will not fit back together, it actually only fits backwards now (long side pin out to go into the keg). the pin is crooked if assembled backwards, hence will not fit into the keg. i feel like a retard because im not sure why this is happening.

this is the liquid qd. i took apart the gas qd to make sure i had it assembled right. its a fairly simple assembly and ive taken apart my liquid qd for cleaning several times. its weird, it only fits backwards now? im really stumped...
