I'm sure there are a thousand posts about this, could somebody point me to a good one? I made a counter-flow chiller (very proud of myself :) and used it for the first time. It only got the wort down to about 76 F. My packet of Safale 05 (dry) was at somewhere between 60 and 65 F. My options were to deploy my immersion chiller (lots of messing about at this point in the game) or call it close enough. So I pitched it. That was at noon on Saturday. after 24 hours I had no activity which never has happened to me with 05.
Was the temperature difference enough to shock the yeast or kill it?
 
The difference was probably enough to shock the yeast, which might explain the lag.

Rehydration will also provide healthier yeast and a shorter lag. When you rehydrate, you can atemperate the yeast to the proper temperature.

Give it a bit longer, it will get going.
 
76F is also on the high end of US-05s range (77F). After active ferm raises the temp a few degrees you will be outside its recommended temp range (ideally max of 71F). I would try and chill some more as soon as possible. May cool water bath + cool place.
 
Better to pitch cooler and go up once the year sense a drop in tempature,the start to shut down. Also I remember Palmer saying something about the yeast creating diacetal when picthed warm that is to much for them to reabsorb at the end of fermentation
