I have in my head to make a batch of heather ale (and indeed, a metheglin with heather). I have dried heather tips (2 oz bags) but it is unclear to me whether published recipes typically call for fresh heather or dried heather. Has anyone made a fraoch using dried heather? If so, how many ounces or cups makes for a good brew? If this were elderflowers and I was making elderflower wine I would not use more than 1 oz /gallon of dried flowers but the recipes I have seen appear to call for significantly more heather than that (sometimes a pint of dried tips /gallon which seems to me to be very large.

Dried heather is fine. It takes a very large amount of heather. I dont remember exactly cause it was years ago, but a pint seems in the ballpark.
