Quick question figure this thread is good enough to post does Du Ciel's Berliner make it to the states? I was under the impression that it didn't.

I've heard a beer store in CA was selling some Raspberry Solstice d'été in July but I don't know how they got it and if DDC shipped a lot of it to the States...

ok I had a friend in central NY bought some and was surprised to see that so I wonder if it was legally brought in or not, lol.

I guess it's still on the shelves there too...
A friend of mine working at DDC was so puzzled about the fact that the western part of Canada got some Solstice that he had to double check internally. So Solstice could have landed in Nepal and I wouldn't be surprised too much.

I had some great new offerings from Auval this weekend Guerilla SSS Triple Stout, not what I was expecting, but very unique & tasty. Their Aronia was an interesting sour with Chokeberry.

Auval does great stuff so far. It just sucks that people are actually getting them mostly to re-flip them instead of drinking them. But hey, you know, isn't it what craft beer is about these days?

Auval will definitely be the best brewery for 2016 in Quebec. Just need to ramp up the production.

I had their DIPA at Vices and it was delicious. Need to try some saison from them.

From what I understand the brewer left Pit-Caribou to do his own thing and spend more time with his family, ramping up sounds counter to that plan.

Re-flip? Holy **** Quebec beer nerds are ambitious.
Just drank yo ****. I don't know of anyone outside Qc who is looking for this (or uber rare single barrel LTM BP) and if they are, not what some of these fuckwads want for it. Delusional.
Its like trying to trade MI distro/brewery only stuff. No one wants.

Honestly, this weekend I had both Dixieme & the barrel-aged Baltic Porter from LTM and thought both we excellent.

Sadly, the re-flipping works locally, because, you know the drill, a bunch of dude in Montreal does all the store, get all they can and just trade after in an attempt to get "larger" or rarer bottles (between you and me, a lot of those traders ends up asking for Loons....).

A lot of people are looking forward to flip stuff outside of QC, which is fine, as long as your offers are reasonable. Shelf for shelf, in most cases. There's a few exceptions, and a few things that aren't shelves and that are very solid and worth hunting, but there is not that many of them. Anyway, I guess it's the same reality everywhere, everybody's hyping their local offerings!

It's no different here in Vermont.

Local & out of state people hang around beer stores waiting for Lawsons & Alchemist deliveries and trade most of the beer that they get. It's sad because it's difficult for some of us locals to even try some of the limited offerings.

At least the beer is good ;) It's crazy how a lot people here ends up buying all the rare stuff when it gets release, then overhype the bad ones just because they don't want them to lose trade value.

Sounds like Boston. ;)

Brasserie Dunham is having a massive release on May 21st. It's mostly sold at the brewery, but a few stores will have some of the products released.

Three recent releses from Dieu du Ciel that are all very good and cheap: Solstice d'Été aux Framboises, Petit Détour and Saison du Parc.

If you want to go through the trade route, the beers from Dieu du Ciel brewery only release earlier this year were almost all very good. Péché Mortel Brandy/Cognac, Symbiose, this years Exorciste and Péché Mortel Bourbon were among my favorite. There's also all releases so far from Brasserie Auval, but especially their Grisette (#1, #2 and #3) and Aronia that are all world-class beers.

And when in Québec, you should always aim for a few ice ciders. :)

Bumping this thread to try and get a sense if there are any must hit spots in Quebec City. I'll be in town in a few weeks and am looking for good beer and wine recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Are Auval bottles still stupid hard to get? I was up there in 2016 and never once saw one anywhere.

My wife and I went to Montreal and Quebec City for our 10 year wedding anniversary a couple years ago. In QC we had an amazing dinner at L'affaire est Ketchup. Solid selection of beer (bottles) and wine, too. Definitely need to call for reservations. We also had dinner at Le Moine Echanson and thought it was really good.

La Projet and Bateau du Nuit were great beer bars, and the only breweries I hit in the city were La Korrigane and La Barberie.

**** it and Forget Auval. Seriously. The production is very, very tiny. The owner wants to produce enough to just survive and doesn't want to make profit. That was said publicly. They make good products, but definitely not worth the hassle of chasing them. Auval will sell bottles at its location in Gaspésie, which is roughly 10 hours away from Montréal (7 hours from Québec City). They will distribute somewhat regularly in the eastern part of Quebec, around 2-3 hours away from Québec City.

Montréal and Québec City get bottles a few times a year (3-4-5 times, more or less) but it's mayhem. People knows when it is happening, line up, loot and the store usually last a few hours, if even. The latest release only hit a couple of stores in Montréal, out of the hundreds of locations that sells craft beer.

Your best bet is to trade for it, forget finding them in store, unless stupid lucky.

Yeah, I don't need Auval or anything. I had a few people tell me the stuff was really good but pretty ridiculous to actually obtain without driving to the brewery.

FYI, Pit Caribou's pub on Rachel street has Auval every now and then (and also a great, great selection of Pit Caribou and other local beers). Worth the detour, your best bet in town to see a keg of Auval.

Again, trading for bottles is not _that_ hard, except for their hop since it's not often release.
