We bottled our first batch. I didn't clean the pan we mixed the priming sugar in until the next day. I found a thin layer of sticky sugar on the bottom of the pan  which means not all of the sugar made it into the bottling bucket! In your experience do I need to mix it into the water better or is that pretty normal?

Ideally it should all be disolved, but I've had the same thing happen. It should still carb up just fine.

You should be able to dissolve the sugar totally. I mix two cups water with X ounces of sugar depending on the required carbonation level.

And stir! :)

Thanks cincydave glad to hear someone had a similar experience with success as the final result :D

HibsMax, I'm doing 3 gallon batches so I didn't need the full 3/4 cup. I only used about 1 cup of water. I figured the less water the better.

The chance that you got every drop of liquid out of the pot its near 0. When the liquid evaporates, the sugar stays. It all dissolved but it ended up back in the pot because the water evaporated overnight causing the sticky mess.
