So Great Notion has two locations now. Anyone have any preference on the vibe between the two spots? I'm trying to figure out the best spot for a likely mildly rowdy group of 10 guys for the bachelor party I periodically pop in here to ask questions about.

Alberta has a bit more space (unless the outdoor area/beer garden is finished at NW - I haven't been by in a bit) and dozens of other food/drink spots within stumbling distance. There isn't much of anything around the NW location in comparison. I'd also highly suggest emailing them with that large of a party, as you may have a lengthy wait on weekends or peak lunch/dinner times.

Pretty sure there's a zinc smelting plant near the NW spot if you're into that sort of thing.

Cool. I emailed them already and they mentioned that there is a small outdoor deck. Is that the space you are referring to or is there something more they have been building?

I emailed them and they clarified that there is just a small outdoor area and no plans for a beer garden at the NW location.

Huh. I think there were initially plans for a larger outdoor beer garden, but I'm guessing they opted for more parking right in front. The general street parking scenario around there isn't exactly "structured" shall we say.

Current plan is to go to the other location and if it’s stupid crowded, find some place nearby that will take us in.

Sounds like they're running it as a pop-up through the rest of the year, and then will decide on whether they will open a permanent location. Honestly, that's probably a good idea.

Now Bjergso is returning the favor to Oregon. His Danish brewery Mikkeller, maker of some of the globe’s most sought-after craft beers, will take over the former home of Burnside Brewing, opening a pop-up beer bar alongside a pop-up restaurant -- a placeholder while the partnership explores the possibility of a permanent bar, restaurant and Mikkeller brewery at the site.

The Copehagen-based Mikkeller is teaming with Portland restaurant group Chefstable to open Mikkeller Portland by June 1 and operate the pop-ups through the end of the year, featuring at least 23 Mikkeller taps alongside a menu of Japanese noodles and rice dishes. The partners will then shut down the pop-ups as they pursue the feasibility of a permanent establishment.

That's a very smart move. Don't over commit and see how the market responds before jumping all in.

“They have an approach to beer that is very different from what we see normally in Oregon,” Huffman said. “The flavor profiles are different; they’re daring in different ways than the breweries here are. … So, I think their perspective will be a great addition to the greatest beer town in America.”

This guy is from Oregon? Suuuure, dude.

The market will respond well. That location is perfect for them as far as the crowd they'll attract, and Huffman definitely knows what he's doing from the food side.

Also, let's think of the long term possibilities here. Mikkeller Beer Celebration Portland? I'll welcome our new overlords.
You don't think our market will reject $12 5oz pours? Cuz I do.

How's Modern Times doing?
Slight difference in cost but yeah, the comparison is there. MT lowered prices at some point. I don't see the same happening in this case because even lowering them $2 would still be obscenely overpriced.

I work a block from Burnside Brewing so illI check it out, get angry and then never go back.

I'd think they're smarter than to come into Portland with Copenhagen/San Francisco/NYC level pricing. They'll definitely be at/near the Modern Times or Great Notion level, though, and those two places aren't exactly suffering. Again, I think the location is a huge part of this. Plenty of people around there willing to pay.
