I guess Younger is going to be easier to get now that the Windsor location is open. My local pub, Proper Pint, which has barely been open a year, tapped a keg tonight.

Unfortunately I'm in Columbus, but glad to see this may be more available.

I was surprised that Bantam Tavern had it as well, also open less than a year.

Proper pint got a keg? Nice job sean!
Yeah. He's rubbing it in a bit.

Last night I did a blind tasting of 12 pilsners that are readily available in the Portland area. 10 people ranked their top 3 and their bottom 3. Then I assigned 1, 2, or 3 points for the favorites and -1, -2 or -3 points for the least favorites. Some results were very surprising, some were expected.

Some interesting notes:
  • Every beer received at least 3 votes, whether good or bad
  • pFriem was in 8 out of 10 peoples' top 3, and received no bad votes
  • Upright, Occidental and Block 15 were polarizing - with all receiving favorite and least favorite votes
  • My favorites were 1st: pFriem, 2nd: Breakside, 3rd: Crux
  • My least favorites were 12th: Upright, 11th: Buoy, 10th: Wayfinder
  • I was shocked by Heater Allen and Wayfinder being in the bottom, tried them both again afterwards and still thought others were better
  • Upright tasted like a saison compared to the rest
  • Buoy is terrible

Sometimes I straight up don’t like Heater Allen, and sometimes it’s nectar of the gods (especially on draft). The other night at the Sandy Hut I had a pint of Rainier followed by a pint of Heater Allen. That pint of Heater Allen was the best damn pint of beer I’ve had in a long time. Of course, totally not a fair comparison, but man was it good.

I've had pFriem and Heater Allen Pils on tap back to back and couldn't pick a favorite so I totally buy the better on draft idea.

Crux Pilz is damn good and often $9.99 for a 6-pack at Safeway. I always have at least a few cans in my beer fridge.

I agree with Heater Allen being either really amazing or just kinda meh. Surprised Wayfinder came in so low. I really like that one.

Were you guys going on straight taste/favorites or were you judging on BJCP style? I liked Buoy Czech pils the last time I had it, surprised it bombed so hard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It doesn’t bode well. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Portland Brewing beer? Nor have I seen it on tap... ever? Honestly, there’s plenty of breweries that have been puttering along for years (and decades) now that always surprise me when I realize they’re still around. Lucky Lab, Lompoc, etc.

Huge difference between Portland Brewing and Burnside or Bridgeport or some other soon to been RIP breweries is that their beer sells like hotcakes. 3.29, permanently on sale for even less, Apricot and the 7%+ Outburst sell well enough even in the ancient bomber format to keep a brewery in business...

Empty Outburst bombers are often seen strewn around Seattle alongside Steel Reserve cans. Definitely a cheap fix.

Interesting...

In case you don't want to Facebook, here's the full text:

We're releasing our very 1st beer in cans! And yet another 1st for us, its a hazy...with our own twist, of course. Made in collaboration with Moksa Brewing Company, this Hazy Brett DIPA taps out at 6.5 lbs. of hops per barrel, 8.9% ABV and has the unique influence of secondary Brett fermentation. Plus, the can art by Andy Morris is ! It's being released alongside Rhūs Jūs, a wildcrafted, mixed-culture sour ale, fermented with Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus, that was racked onto the brilliantly red cones of foraged staghorn sumac, elderflower and elderberries.

Referenced in the Tillamook thread, but I'm helping organize a bachelor party in August in Hood River. We were going to do rafting but are now looking for a more cost effective option. Does anyone have any recs for lazy/boozy river floating? I'm having a hard time googling info specifically for floating/tubing.

I think your problem closer to Hood River is the idea of a "lazy" river float. Nothing on the Columbia River is going to fit the bill, and even the closest to Hood River on this list (Lyle, WA) sounds like it's a bit more amped up than you're looking for.

Is Hood River a foregone conclusion? Bend is also sweet and basically renowned for its river floats.

Yeah, we got the airbnb booked.

Good to know though and I suspected as much given the amount of rafting companies around. We'll find something else to do.

If hiking or mountain biking are acceptable alternatives you will have no shortage of awesome options. I'd suggest giving wind surfing a whirl but if rafting breaks the bank that definitely will as well :)

Also beer, but you probably already figured that one out.
I saw paddle boarding near downtown Hood River. Not sure how long you can have fun doing that tho.
