Hi,

I recently made this recipem what should become a Triple NEIPA:
OG: 1.078
FG: 1.013

Golden Promise 40%
Pils 40%
Golden Naked Oats: 15%
Oat flakes: 5%

single step mash on 66°C

Hops: Sabro & Mosaic
It received 420 grams of hops on a 50 liter batch.

Yeast: London Fog wlp 066. Somewhat underpitched because I did the starter to late. Pitch rate was around 0.75M cells / mL / °P
Started fermenting on 19°C and let it rise in steps to 22°C towards the end.

When I taste it now, it tastes like a strong POF+ Belgiany kind of beer (taste is good however). Did anyone else got this from WLP 066?

Shouldn't be getting POF+ from it, are you sure it's not an infection?

It can always be an infection but I did not ferment with Belgian yeast in that fermentation vessel. Dont know if I tasted pof+ but it was very estery and belgiany

POF+ flavors mean that you are getting phenolic flavors. These can be described as clove, smokey, chemical, bandaid, type flavors.

Estery and belgiany could simply mean fruit flavors such as banana, stone fruit, apple, pear, etc.

A bit hard to say,it tastes like Triple D'anvers and La Chouffe a bit, if you know that...

My guess is I underpitched. But an infection is always possible i suppose

@stijn26 I just had this experience with this yeast. The last two brews I got the clove & bandaid taste. The most recent brew it is overwhelming. I started to notice the flavor after the 4th generation of building a starter.

It could be an infection, but I am pretty anal about sanitizing everything. The brew before the off flavors showed up was amazing, which is disappointing at the moment. I am going to have to will myself into drinking 8 gallons of belgiany NEIPAs.

Yeah, I would say there is another yeast involved, but just a bummer because I brewed a really nice brew before the last two batches.
