Plastic spoon/measurement tool

I think I want to file down my stirring spoon to mark water levels in my boiling kettle for quick referencing.

If I file the plastic away it's probably going to increase risk of infection once it becomes coarse. Any other thoughts?

When I was using my spoon as a measuring device, I simply left it in the pot the whole time. No problems with 'infections' at that point. Just what I did...

Everything you stick that in will get boiled. I don't see an issue.

I agree with above and you can also file notches then take a lighter and heat the notch,
It will smooth it out making it easier to clean

I use a steel yard stick. In my kettles one gallon is exactly 1.5 inches,
