I was just pleasantly surprised to see their top 10 didn't look like
  • Goose Island Brewery.
  • Blue Point.
  • 10 Barrel.
  • Elysian Brewing Company.
  • Golden Road Brewing.
  • Four Peaks Brewery.
  • Breckenridge Brewery.
  • Devils Backbone Brewing Company.
  • Wicked Weed.
  • Shock Top.

List sucks either way you slice it. A list made of of basically IPAs/BA stouts/weird adjunct beers is almost as bad as a list of AB Inbev owned outfits. I mean say what you will, but quality wise I probably would have put Wicked Weed above some of the breweries on that list and unless the quality has fallen off since acquisition I still would. At least if ratebeer put out your list people might stop acting like the lists and ratings there actually matter...

How do us Picksburgh folks feel about Tired Hands overall?

Big fan of their farmhouse beers for the most part. Their hops can be pretty hit or miss for me. The hits are usually very good, but the misses tend to be pretty far off the mark.

I got drunk there once and ate 4 or 5 tacos and a basket of fries.

Their Saisons are top notch. Their hops are what they are.

I don't really understand the hate towards them

I cant tell ya the last time I had a TH beer but I think I have not had anything from them since they started making the milkshake ipa stuff.

I think the hate stems from the future rustic fortune telling shindig they perform with that cristina zellertinfielddale or whatever the **** that was. Also, I think people roll their eyes at Jean or whatever his name is doing limited releases and charging for “artwork” he creates ala pouring melted wax on his nipples and smearing the bottles in it and charging an extra couple bucks for that performance.

Dont get me started on the glassware they release everytime they have their period and that one glass with “artwork” that is nothing more than a cartoon depiction of a dick sticking through a glory hole.

ourison is a classic. saison hands is great. i've had good and bad cans of hop hands. milkshakes are gross. i appreciate the creativity when they aren't taking it to dry log extremes. the big brew pub is also awesome. i can see people hating on the lines of folding chairs, but that seems right in line with crazy philly people stuff.

Alright, that's pretty funny.

I might be an ******* but I like a milkshake IPA once in a while. I've had more bad ones than good ones at this point though, for sure.

I had a couple of interesting beers from them in the fall though Five Leaves Left (III) (agava syrup and Galaxy) was good, as was Are We Okay? which was a TIPA with passion fruit. Those were both nice.

Someone sent me their apple cider DIPA and it wasn't good at all.

Been trying to avoid this place. My summary/responses of the past couple of pages:
  • hoodwinked, bamboozled, flimflammed and hornswoggled don't get used often enough.
  • Congrats to Voodoo for making the AB-InBev top 100 we want to acquire (only half-kidding). I didn't see it mentioned, but I was surprised to see Voodoo expand distro to Florida. I remember them laying out their vision at the Homestead launch of how they want to have a home base in Meadville and supply up and down the Western PA corridor and into NY. This seems to go against that, but then again that was how many years ago...
  • Tired Hands is cool. People waiting in stupid lines with chairs gave them a bad rep. I blame SteveOldrati. I love me any version of Ourison, and I am always happy to see their hops when not in milkshake form.
  • In regards to brewery saturation...my take is there is plenty of room for small breweries. These places really victimize the local "bars". There is limited and ever-shrinking capacity as the more successful ones go to increase capacity and start/increase their distro footprint. An prime example of this for me is an old kbuzz favorite, HopFarm. They seem to do alright for themselves as-is (I haven't been in there since meeting kbuzz for an IP trade like 6 years ago), but I see that they are now going to distro.
  • There does seems to be plenty of capacity for food trucks to expand as new breweries without kitchens popup and look to go that direction.

These yinzers in these Facebook groups "protecting" and arguing "secondary market value" down to the penny on Voodoo's beers from the upcoming release is one of the biggest eyesores and most embarrassing things I've ever seen. My friend added me to a group called Voodoo Trading League so I could witness the train wreck first-hand, and holy Christ, I never wanted to stab myself in the eyes so bad. I was out faster than Antonio Cromartie at a paternity test hearing.

Just the name of that Facebook group makes me uncomfortable.

Tbf I don't really follow or know how their releases are set up. I just have a buddy bring me a smattering of bottles whenever he's in town. I have heard about that Christian Zellerfield alter ego thing but forgot. Hey, if he wants beer nerds to have to endure his crazy and jump through hoops, that's his perogative I guess.

Jean was a nice and helpful dude for the brief time I spoke with him.
