Not mentioned in that article, but Stick City is supposed to open early next year in Mars. Excited about that one because it's like 5 minutes from me. Had a few samples and it seems decent

I'm a fatty and I don't think any pizza is worth getting stabbed over... Or driving to McKees Rocks at all, tbh.
doughboy's is pretty close to the bridge at least. abjuration looks like its right in the belly of the beast.

Good pizza in/around Pittsburgh is kind of hard to find. I always heard Mineo's was the best. Tried it recently and thought it lived up to the hype for the most part.

mineo's has too much cheese for me. i think we already went through the exercise of our favorite local pizza shops so i won't rehash that one. however, i heard from the pizza fairy that a local favorite non-stationary pizza maker may be getting a permanent spot in the next few months.

Formerly ambulatory, soon to be non-ambulatory? That's backwards talk for this thread. A step in the wrong direction is you will.

We understand everyone's reservations about Stowe/Mckees Rocks. We had the same reservations... Over the last year of building out the brewery we have spent a lot of time there and we haven't had any issues. The community has really embraced us, to our surprise, and there is an active presence to turn around the rocks. No doubt there is crime, like a lot places, but it seems to be mostly drug on drug related. Also, we are literally a block from the police station.

We will be having events in December with pint sales... hope some of you stop by to try our offerings.

And it pains me to say this as I'm like 98% sure it's not the case but this sounds pretty good.

We are very happy to present the second The PGH Park Series beer for this year - Hartwood Acres.

The yeast strain that was used in this beer was captured in a section of Hartwood Acres that bordered a small field in a dense wooded area. The strain was foraged from an airborne sample, downwind of a mix of prominent trees, including; Sugar Maple, Dogwood and Cherry Blossom. The yeast strain boasts aromas of grass, honeysuckle, light hay and very minimal must, almost aged cheese like. The aromas combine with the lemongrass and tropical fruit flavor profile, for a sour and refreshing burst of local flavor. Mangoes, papaya, persimmon and light lemon, all make a presence throughout this sour ale. The finish is dry, sour and refreshing, but with very light, almost still, carbonation. We recommend drinking this beer at cellar temperature (47°F - 53°F) to experience the finer notes of the yeast.

Hartwood Acres comes in at 6.0% abv and is packaged in 750ml bottles. Bottles and draft will be available at our taproom starting tomorrow at 5pm. The bottles will be priced at $12.75 each.

We hope to see you tomorrow for the Hartwood Acres bottle release.

At first i thought this might be good, but let's try to decode this a little further. a "refreshing burst of local flavor":

grass
honeysuckle
light hay
very minimal must, almost aged cheese like
lemongrass
tropical fruit
Mangoes
papaya
persimmon
light lemon

I don't know about you guys but tropical fruit and citrus doesn't scream local flavor to me. I'm curious to give this a shot but i doubt i'd agree with any of those descriptors. They also list "sour" and "refreshing" twice, so it's probably really sour but not that refreshing. On top of that, its "almost still" which seems to be code for "flat as hell", which probably doesn't play well with it being sour.

Yinz need to come let me show you some parts of Baltimore.

I've never been scared of McKees Rocks in my life. Especially when you can get such a great fish sandwich (or "fissammich" if you're my dad).

Rocky's?

The Rocks has Mancini's Bakery which has awesome pepperoni rolls, and Pierogies Plus is a cool place worth checking out.

Is that the giant pep rolls with fried hot peppers? Like the size of a loaf of bread?

Was gonna post a snide comment about DL, but deleted in favor of responding to this one...

Thanks for posting. What are you guys all about? Do you make beers with wild airborne Rocks yeast or what?

I've been quietly purchasing all of DLs park series beers to send to you in one big shipper.

How was the first one in this series (North Park?)?

I think fissamiches are maybe the most underrated aspect of Pittsburgh cuisine. Nobody talks about this.

The only food items I miss since I moved away are 1) good dive bar chicken wings and 2) fissamiches.
we usually do a fish sandwich tour at work every year. we've come up with some sleepers. i didn't realize this was a pgh thing.

Open source recipes which I think is pretty cool for homebrewers.
