If anyone missed out on Etch but is getting Spy Dolphin, I'd love to swap a 4 pack. Also, did anyone try the new Roundabout IPA?
He seemed like a good dude. But you get jokes at your expense when you back out of a BIF. He broke Man's Law. God's Law. Seth's Law. Murphy's Law.....Law and Order.

Where's Zack? He's in the basement.
One of the best comedy specials ever released! Plus it was filmed at The Purple Onion. Great place to catch a show.He seemed like a good dude. But you get jokes at your expense when you back out of a BIF. He broke Man's Law. God's Law. Seth's Law. Murphy's Law.....Law and Order.

While there's no doubt this dude is now a turd in my book (not just for flaking on a BIF, but also for dicking over someone who vouched for him), I probably shouldn't have publicly recruited for the league. I had never transactionally interacted with the guy, so I really should have chosen more carefully from the pool of fine Pittsburgh folk in this thread who have proven to be transactionally sound.
So, you know...not at all my bad, but partially my bad.
I understood previous comments regarding "reserving" to mean that you had to buy them but they just held onto them until you were ready to ship?
Ahh, it all makes sense now. Thanks guys!Yeah, you have to buy them. Put a few bottles in your cart and checkout. If the bottles are over 25 Euro, you will not have to pay a reservation fee. If they are under 25 Euro, you will have to pay a dollar for the fee. Pay via paypal, then they will send you an order confirmation. Easy Joey Porter (J-Peezy).
Shipping rates go up from 78 Euro once you get above 38 kg. They give you the weights of each bottle on the site. Add 15% on top of the weight for shipping material. For reference, 11 75cl bottles of 3F OG or 12 bottles of 'Tome will fill a box.
Sorry to harp on this etre thing, but I just checked out the site again and am not seeing a way to reserve beers. I can put stuff in my cart, but I'm pretty sure that's not actually reserving said bottles for me if someone else comes along and buys them before I pull the trigger. Can anyone teach an old man how to internet here?
After looking into this a bit more, it looks like etre doesn't accept any method of payment other than PayPal? It looks like PayPal's conversion rate is ~3% worse than the standard bank rate, and ~2% worse than my credit card's rate. Looks like PayPal may also have additional conversion fees. Anybody have any experience with such things? Just thinking about it on a per beer basis, shipping is adding like $7-8 per 750mL, which I'm fine with because I'm getting things that I can't get here, and so of course they have to be shipped. But to pay an extra $1 or so per bottle for the "convenience" of using PayPal seems stupid.
tl;dr I'm a cheap nerd.
That too.Yeah I don't know. I was wondering the same thing. I'd rather use cc. Get them points.

Hook your credit card up to your PayPal. I have multiple payment methods hooked up to mine. That too.

I thought of that, but you're still ultimately using PayPal for the purchase, so wouldn't all of their usd to Euro conversion rates/fees still apply?Hook your credit card up to your PayPal. I have multiple payment methods hooked up to mine.
Stopped by Cellar Works in Sarver last night with a friend.
Cocoa Bean Stout was nice for what it was @ 5.5%. Yes, it was thin but the chocolate came through well.
The single hop Manadarina Bavaria IPA was pretty dull. Minimal nose and taste. Had a nice creamy body and went down really easy but I was bored after the second sip.
Fifty Foot Robot was the highlight of the night beer-wise. Nice nose if a bit muted. @ 4.9, my glass was empty before I knew it. Citra and Amarillo for the hop bill. Smooth body and not thin for the ABV. I'd put this on Roundabout/Dancing Gnome level.
They also had a saison that was my least favorite of the night. It was a belgian pale, not a saison. Muted all around.
Also ate there. I had chicken and waffles which were pretty good but a little smaller of a portion than my fat ass would care for. My friend had scotch eggs and wings. The wings were excellent. Smoked then fired. The smoke came through nicely. The scotch eggs were severely overcooked though. I don't eat eggs but so I didn't try them but she did not care for them. Swing and a miss there. I'll be back eventually. I think there is some promise for a 5 month old brewery.
Also have to give them points for serving sizes. They offer 4, 8, and 12oz pours. 4oz in a taster tulip, 8oz in a bigger tulip, and full pours in a stemmed tulip ala the old Hill Farmstead glasses. Bought a branded stemmed tulip and it was only $6.
I thought of that, but you're still ultimately using PayPal for the purchase, so wouldn't all of their usd to Euro conversion rates/fees still apply?
I mean, it gets you the points, but that was a secondary issue for me.
I emailed them on Friday. Will let you know if/when I hear back.Yeah. I was hoping you could just use credit card straight up
Glad you guys got that figured out. What are you going to do with that ≤1.5% savings windfall? You can almost buy a half beer at The Brew Gentlemen with it.Figured it out.
Paypal gives you the option to use their conversion rate or let your card decide. I sent you a PM london1o1
Saved $3.20 doing it that way.
It looks like PayPal's conversion rate is ~2% worse than my credit card's rate. also additional conversion fees.
Pay attention. 2÷ is 133÷ of 1.5÷. (I think my card's better for foreign conversion rates than Tommy's.)What are you going to do with that ≤1.5% savings windfall?
Yins, where should I go to purchase some beer and wine in the deep creek area? Is there anyplace worth checking out? Or shld I just fill a growler locally and take some home brew?
Don't recall the name of the shop, but I went to one of the stores right when you get into town and it had stuff from The Bruery, Allagash, super fresh DC Brau's On the Wings of Armageddon and more. Was a pleasant surprise. Think it was across the street from a grocery store? Was in a tiny little strip mall.
