I wouldn't charge a friend anything more than half what was actually paid. JMO but I'm not charging a friend for schlepping.
I wouldn't say I "charged" him - he offered it freely & I accepted. I guess I could've turned it down & just taken cost, but it seemed fair so I didn't really think twice about it. Dude got a half case of FBS for $15, I saw a part of Westmoreland County I'd never seen before, we both walked away happy, win-win in my book.

As long as you both felt like it was fair, that's all that matters in the end.

Personally, I'd gladly pay someone a reasonable premium if I can't make it over there at any given time. $9 doesn't seem like a lot to me. Their time is valuable too. This doesn't seem like those guys selling heady topper at 2x the price years ago.

To me, placing myself in the shoes of the seller, 9 bucks isn't enough of windfall to justify the hassle of communicating that I had the item for sale and then coordinating the sale itself to the second party. I can only speak for myself of course but in that instance the juice just doesn't seem to be with the squeeze.

Totally agree from seller's point of view. $9 isn't worth the hassle. But, for example, I can't make it to this Wednesday's release. If anyone wants to sell me some cans for cost plus $9, I'll take them.

So at what price point is selling Voodoo bottles acceptable or BG bottles? Is profiteering wrong or is taking away the opportunity away from someone to buy a limited beer at retail? Is the brewery cool with secondary sales? If you wanted to get their name out there can't you just trade for another IPA or give it to an out of town friend?

Just asking questions.
Voodoo was very clear with their stance on secondary sales. Given The Brew Gentlemen's behavior and max profits business model, they likely don't care about asshats reselling their products.

On the matter at hand, why not ask Dancing Gnome directly what they think of some dope reselling their beer at a 50% markup?

If I trade it for another IPA, Im wasting money on the shipping, and probably also getting a shittier product unless it's Trillium. Of course if someone I personally knew from out of town wanted it, I'd send it for cost. The small trading I do do anymore for RAR. Whales, I throw them in as extras too. I'm in no need of the small amount of money, and I'm not keeping it anyways, it's getting funneled back into more beer sales for them.
Since your cause is so noble, why not just ask the brewery for free beer? You won't have to go behind their back reselling it and I'm sure the brewery would be happy to invest in someone who is getting their name out there to people who in all likelihood will never spend a dime at their establishment.

So that should also apply to the person who sells the Voodoo BRC for $500 and uses it buy more beer right? I don't get when anyone says one secondary sale is less evil so it's ok, but someone puts a high price on a bottle and that person suddenly becomes a shitlord.

What if it went down like this: I asked one of you fine TB 'Burghers if you have any extra DN cans because I couldn't make the release and one of you PMs generously that you have some extra. We agree to meet somewhere and at that time I throw you an extra $10 spot. You say, "it's not necessary" and I say "I insist. I appreciate you taking the time to share and meet me with the beer." I suspect no one would really care if it went down that way right? Maybe it's different but that's a more likely scenario to me. If it were me personally, I'd just share the beer at my cost.

I can understand buying to trade, and to a lesser degree buying and reselling if you can't afford to drink without some sort of hustle, but if you don't need the money, why buy extra when you know that you're taking away from another local's chance to drink it?

Back to actual beer for a moment. The Kaleidoscope IPA from Roundabout is really good. Might be my favorite IPA from them to date. Definitely worth grabbing if you are in the area.

Accepting an unsolicited gratuity is a bit different than asking for or expecting it.
share the beer at my cost
Bingo. Now you're catching on.

Is Dan's offer really that bad? He breaks even, plus gets covered a four-pack for his trouble (the "free beer" shuglord claims he was angling for). Buyer gets beer at a 50% mark-up plus shipping, which is what a retailer would charge anyway.

Admittedly this isn't my game, but it doesn't seem like gross profiteering to me. dadavat even said that the margin barely seemed worth the effort, so it's not like Dan would be getting away with murder here. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.
I hate myself for typing this as I have stated numerous times I don't want drama with my beer...

One missing piece in this story is Dan (beerman6686 ) offering to grab me a 4-pack of B1or2 then confirming in a private message only to go silent. He also stated he sold 2x4-packs to cover one for him. Pretty sure he sold "mine" lol. He's read my messages, so what other conclusion can I come to?

Funny part is he brings up trading hops for Trillium. I told Dan I was going to be in Boston for work. I planned on bringing him some fresh Trillium as a thanks, and anyone who even remotely knows me probably could've put 2 and 2 together and assumed I would give something extra as a thanks.

In with the Matthouse3-style surprise witness plot twist!

Sorry greg4579 , had read them while either taking a **** or in passing while on the road down to Virginia, and was a ******** for not replying back yet. I got your 4 pack sitting in my fridge at home right now, Ill be back on Wednesday, figured that was cool since you won't be back til then either. You've always hooked me up, not going to **** you over. Certainly would not sell them if I agreed to get them for anyone on here.

On a side note, think I'm going to Brothers brewing tomorrow if anyone wants anything. You all get a talkbeer discount and don't have to pay the 50% markup

On this whole subject of shitlording, I actually firmly side with every word that shuggy has posted...well that pertains to the subject at hand and without the insults of course. But again, he will never know.

If you can't afford to drink, don't drink.

If you're trying to truly spread the word, trade it...yes, at your own expense because it's your ******* agenda...and give away what you get in return for all I care. No matter how you slice it, upcharging for beer is ****** because you're doing it to help yourself somehow, someway.

In conclusion...

shuggy shuggy shuggy

That's what "extras" are for when transacting like this. Bring a beer or two for that "tip" if you feel it necessary.

So you're selling two off for the free one you deserve for the effort AND using mules to provide for somebody else as well? You're quite the stand up guy for not ******* him over with your free beer endeavors. Good on you.

They still had cans for sale on Friday sugar britches. No need for a mule. You almost put together a reasonable factual response there. Keep trying, you'll get it someday.

That would've sucked if they didn't have extra available the next day. You would've only been able to get two cans for free. Then again, you surely got all three again on Friday for even more free beer for you. #winning

How can you understand that? If you can't afford it, don't buy it, that should be common sense or no?

I think it's more noble to have some sort of meager hustle to get a 4 pack (given some sort of extenuating circumstance) than to have no reason at all other than you don't want to pay for it.

It's beer. We're not talking about coming up with some creative sales techniques so the baby has clothes and food. It's beer. You're better than this.
