Attended a Garrett Oliver beer dinner at Headkeeper 6-7 years ago. The dude really knows how to propel beer & food parings to another level. Also made a point to stop at each table and chat in between courses. Personally poured us some of the first bottles of Sorachi Ace that made it off brewery premises. Aged Black Chocolate Stout with Strawberry Rhubarb crumble thing is one of my favorite beer/food moments ever. I'd do it again for sure, but at a place with better food than Hough's.

But I also spent twice that to have Kevin Sousa make me astronaut ice cream in his home kitchen, so what do I know.

greg4579 wasn't lying about the bread at Tired Hands. Damn.

Is Sousa still doing those pop ups? WTF is up with Superior Motors? Is that going to open? TalkSousa.com

They surpassed their Kickstarter goal by $60K. Per an update on 5/25/16: We are just touching base to let everyone know that we are in the process of securing the final piece of financing needed to finish this project.

Salt of the Earth will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first "nicer" restaurant I really ate at. Basically a gateway, kind of like the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale of fine dining for me.

By the way, traders who don't communicate are a pet peeve of mine. I sent a guy a package and a nice extra that delivered yesterday at 10 am. Messaged him at noon to let me know if everything arrived safe and sound. He read the messaged, never thanked or responded back to me, didn't leave feedback, but made another FT post at 11pm last night.

Eww. Bit of communication goes a long way and can smooth over most issues; don't understand how this remains an enigma to many traders.

definitely want to hit up SG again to eat.

Had a pork belly omelette week before last there, and there were like five or six other items I could've eaten instead--will definitely go back.

Salt was so good when it was good. Things went downhill quickly there once new ownership took over.

Has anyone else been to Bar Marco? It was a little pretentious for my liking, but the food was excellent. Wife and I went to dinner there Saturday night and then went to Smallman Galley for a beer. Was my first time at both, definitely want to hit up SG again to eat.

We did the basement dinner there once and I would say the food was quite good but the wine pairings were mediocre. Seasonally it was appropriate but the wine pairings for spring left you paying a ton of money for 4 small pours of white wines you probably would never order. I wouldn't do that dinner again, at least if I were paying for it.

Smallman is so awesome. I love the concept. Going there on Friday. Cocktails/Wine/Beers and tons of food options, no reservations, plenty of seating, and a nice atmosphere. No complaints.

Yeah when my wife made the res they offered one of those dinners, but I don't really drink much wine so we passed on that.

Someone told me that Monteray Bay recently contracted him to redo their menu...
This is a fact. Someone I work catering jobs with saw him on the line there and it made us all chuckle. I don't know him personally, but he hasn't made a ton of friends in the industry...but all three of his restaurants were really good when he was still with them.

I enjoy red wine a lot, but it honestly all tastes the same to me. Every time my fiancee and I go to a BYOB restaurant, we always bring the same $12.99 bottle of wine. I imagine the wine connoisseurs who are dining at other tables give me the same type of disgusted glance that I would give someone who brings Miller Lite to a beer tasting.

Didn't he update his own wiki page or something to say "best chef in Pittsburgh"? Or claimed to be some pioneer of something or other? I don't even know what he looks like, but I've had countless amounts of people tell me he's a pretty arrogant, pretentious dude.

There are so many respectable (to most), good bottles of red for twenty bucks and under. No shame in that.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit. Let's just say he believes a lot in his brand...and he's really dicked over a lot of people

Hey guys! Going to be in Pittsburgh this weekend for a wedding. My girlfriend and I are staying downtown at the DoubleTree and have all day Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoon to do stuff. Saturday night we're going to the Pirates game, but that's all we have planned so far. Is East End's new taproom in the Strip up and running? Would definitely like to check that out. Any other recommendations for places to eat or drink?

Negative, Ghost rider.

Will you have a car? For drinking, Roundabout, Voodoo and Brew Gentlemen are all reasonable distances from you.

You might have seen Smallman Galley referenced in the past few pages (http://www.smallmangalley.org/our-restaurant-concepts/), which is about a mile from you and has both eats and a nice beer list. You could make a weekend morning of that--stroll the Strip and eat at Pamelas or DeLucas for breakfast, gawk at locals buying out of season Steelers garb by the truckload to polka, and then work up a lunch appetite for SG. If you're into Thai, Pusadees is near Roundabout, a bit farther into Lawrenceville.
