On the flip side, I respect what they did. They made an "experience" out of a bottle release. There is a big push back by craft breweries right now to try and curb the secondary sales market. Some are doing "you can only drink on premise" releases (which is pretty cool) and others are laying down the ban hammer on those caught selling. I view what DL did as a cool way to make a personal experience out of a beer release. Price point aside, if someone is going to spend $50 on a dinner they are less likely to sign up if their only intention was to resell.

I am not saying that was the reasoning behind DL's dinner, but wouldn't blame them if it was.

I did a poor job of conveying what my primary beef with the whole thing I think. I don't care so much about the price or the concept of the dinner. For me it's more what I mentioned before, the whole walk before you run thing. I know you said the new batch of La Pen is awesome, but it's been massively inconsistent in the past, just as their others beers have been.

At it's best, Geestilijke is amazing (for me), but I've had it at least twice where it was so off that it didn't even taste like the same beer... And during the last Briar release, Red Briar on tap and Red Briar in the bottle was again so different that, if tasting them blind, I'd have guessed they were two entirely different beers.

This is just me and my experience though. It's not meant to discourage anyone else from them, nor is it necessarily to "trash" them. I just think they have some ways to go with the consistency in their day to day offerings before they make the leap into those other things.

Funny thing is, I have actually heard of this place lol.

Just watched that goal again. Staal was my favorite player back then... You don't know how happy I was that we won the rematch in the finals.. Living in Toledo with all these Wings fans is awful. 10/10 would not recommend.
I really think this series will go 7 and not sure if the pens will win this year I am just happy with what they did there was a point where I didn't think we where making the playoffs

You make some very valid points. Their consistency has been a general lack of consistency. The last Briar release was littered with problems including carbonation issues in bottling. But in fairness I emailed them about my bottle of Blue Briar and they were very open about correcting the issue.

I would love to see them dial in their beers a bit more so that my experience isn't so varied. I agree with most of you here that I have gone there a lot less because of this very issue.

It frustrates me because I do feel like their stuff has a lot of potential. When those beers are on point, Red Briar and Gesstilijke (I think I'm spelling that wrong, but oh well), are really damn good.

Yeah I think it'll go at least 6 games. I can see our speed being too much for them though.. And I agree. This team under MJ was awful. Wasn't even fun to watch.. That's all I asked for when Sullivan took over. Complete 180.

ur boy catlicks AnotherPint4Ole and anyone else that cares on NYC places.

NYC Bar / Bottle Shop / Brewery recs:

These are all over the place as I have no idea what you guys will be doing, most are downtown Manhattan, some mid town and outer boroughs:

In no apparent order

Bar - The blind tiger: Amazing place, awesome bartenders. I've had cantillon, Lawson's, HF any pretty much anything you've ever wanted there. General tap list can be hit or miss, but worth a look. Their food is good and it's in a fun area for night life.

Bottle Shop - New Beer Distributors (sketchy place but you can find some gems, make sure you check bottle dates for anything you want fresh)

Bottle Shop - Whole Foods Bowery Beer room - awesome staff, huge selection and cheapest prices in Manhattan.

Bottle Shop - Whole foods in Brooklyn (My beer hookup moved there to run that store from the Bowery, he was awesome and their prices were lower than I've ever found). Basically the whole foods in Manhattan if they have a good beer manager kill it.

Bottle Shop / Bar - Top Hops - nice selection of bottles and drafts

Bar - One Mile House - Always has a killer draft list, often find HF and other gems there

Bar - Fools Gold - Always has a killer draft list, often find HF and other gems there

Bottle Shop / Bar? - Good Beer Co. - nice bottle selection but a bit pricey

Bar - The Jeffrey - Same owners as fools gold and just a killer place for cocktails(onsite mixologist who kills it) and they are often found having HF and other goodies on tap. Amazing bar food as well.

Bar - The Gingerman - has the most taps in Manhattan and has a really good offering / varied selection

Bar - Proletariat - another place that gets killer tap lists.

Bottle Shop / Bar - Bierkraft in Brooklyn has a great selection, can be pricey sometimes

Bar - Torst - insane food and bottle list, if you hit it right you can try some unreal beers on tap. They often do a lot of cool tap takeovers that no where else in the city does.

Brewery - Three's Brewing - pumping out some amazing styles, probably the best Berliner I've ever had. Their IPA/DIPA game is on point as well.

Brewery - Other Half - some great brews, pricey though and some of their beers are just a miss with me, but others a huge hit- YMMV and I recommend trying it out - their tasting room is the size of a shoebox though, be prepared to hug a hipster.

Brewery - Finback - putting out some awesome stuff, never made it to their tap room before I left though.

Brewery - Single cut - highly under rated, you act get bombers of their ipa/dipa's for $6 bucks. they've consistently improved from a "meh" to a wow, this is from Singlecut?!?!

Avoid Beer table pantry in grand central - they wanted something like $125 for a bottle of A deal with the devil, every bottle is consistently 3-5 times the price anywhere else. I worked near there and would often go in to see what was new as they must have the hookup because they have every "hot" bottle coming in.

I know I am missing a few, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have any other questions just shoot me a PM and I can help.

If you want food or cocktail joint recs, that's a whole other story (The Little owl is my favorite place in NYC for food in case you care). Tons of food places that always change.

Hope that helps you guys

If this were on twitter, it would need to be 23.95 tweets. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Just seems to me like they always want to run before they walk. Maybe dial in the consistent quality of your normal beers before you charge $50 a plate to debut your sour vanilla ice cream beer? I don't know.

Maybe I'm still used to Chicago prices or something, but $50 for two bottles of beer and drafts and dinner is actually pretty reasonable to me. (Not speaking on the quality of the beer since I haven't had it).

On the flip side, I respect what they did. They made an "experience" out of a bottle release. There is a big push back by craft breweries right now to try and curb the secondary sales market. I agree with all of these things simultaneously. Mostly just wish DL would improve their consistency.

I've found that I don't really end up at draai laag anymore, as well. It wasn't really a decision, it just happened. I guess they just haven't been making beers that appeal to me right now.

I did a poor job of conveying what my primary beef with the whole thing I think.

Nonsense. yinz just developed a keen appreciation for dentits office waiting rooms and vfw basements
That dude is always making a fool of himself on the Facebook groups. Insane how stupid stupid can actually get.
Thanks a lot. Jagoff. I'll take my business elsewhere.
