I'm not a fan of Huell Melon, but everything else about this beer screams gimme.

In large quantities I agree but I've used it in a Helles in small quantities and it came out great. I also used it in a German NEIPA and it came out not so great.

Curious what you guys didn't like about it? Brewery my father works at made an IPA hopped with Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria and Hallertau Blanc that was one of the most interesting IPA's I've had in quite a long time. I can't think of anything I've had that solely expressed that varietal though.

In the case of the German NEIPA it was interesting but it didn't have the juicy character I was looking for in an NEIPA. I used the same combo of hops actually (plus German Cascade). In my opinion/experience they work really well as light additions or as complimentary hops but not as the main focus (say in an IPA for example, I really like them in weizens, pale lagers, and saisons).

Commercially I've tried the FFF and Camba collaboration (both versions) and they both seemed to have an artificial apricot and strawberry flavor that isn't present when used in small quantities.

I've had a few IPAs that have been brewed with it. And I've noticed a sweetness/creaminess that I didn't care for.

Highland Park Brewery and pFriem made a beer that took HPB's flagship pale ale but heavily hopped it with Huell Melon and added a bit of brett. I though it was fantastic, like cantaloupe juice, but I don't think it was very popular. One downside I remember is that the melon characteristic faded pretty fast, maybe in a week or two, and the brett kind of took over.

I haven't tried Huell Melon by itself but maybe I should. I have a series of dry-hopped saisons where I use the same base, maybe I'll do that next.

#1 Ranked Austin Beer Garden Brewing - Industry Pils.

I'm no cicerone, but this beer *****. Super crisp and clean with a light floral hop nose/finish, just the right amount of lingering bitterness. Not sure if it's my #1 Pilsner, but ABGB does make some fantastic lagers and has the GABF awards to show.

Seemed to be low carbonated, not the mouthfeel I like in a Pils. Lots of honeydew sweetness from the Huell. I liked it and it's not bad like the guy at Bottleworks tried to tell me, but of the Mirage lagers I'd rank them:

1. Ski Mask (seriously damn good Helles)
2. First Day Out
3. Neon Guts
4. Every Little Step

New Glarus Mistral

Mistral winds blow juicy pear and citrus notes through our single hop, 12.5 °Plato Bohemian Style Pilsner. Master Brewer Daniel Carey shares the kinship of daily nurturing with small French hop farms to deliver an Alsatian inspired treasure. 40 IBU’s of masterful French Mistral hops steal the spotlight from our traditional double decoction brew. This single hop beer is a very limited bottling only available here with special thanks to Francis Heitz and his French hop growers.

I'm not very familiar with Mistral hops, but pear + noble hop spiciness and herbal character seems just about right. Just a wonderful beer that sadly seems to be just about dry at the source (and my fridge). While everyone else clamors for more Strawberry Rhubarb, I'd be content for another drop of this later in the summer.

One kid swimming in the pool. Baby gotta nap. Dad gotta get the only relaxation time in that he possibly can on this “vacation.”

I like this beer. Not as crisp as most American-made “German Style Pilsners.” But it’s actually closer to a lot of the Pils I had in Germany. Not quite as crisp and snappy as the American examples. But it’s scratching an itch.
