Hi all,

As a budding homebrewer from India, it is a bit difficult finding ingredients here and next to impossible to find a cheap food grade sanitizer. So far I have been using variety of materials with minimal success. Yesterday I stumbled upon this cleanser at a shop and wondering if it can be used for homebrewing purpose. It is a foodgrade cleanser with main ingredients:- Water, Sodium Citrate, Alcohol, Propyne Glycol, Sucrose laurate, Potassium Carbonate, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Perfume.

It says it can be used to cleanse food as well but should be rinsed before use. Can any of you expert give me your opinion on this?

Here is the link for the product:- https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00AW8YFK6/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Thanks in advance

Cleaning and sanitizing are two different things. I cant really speak to the sanitizing properties of that product but I'd be concerned about the "perfume" ingredient at a minimum.

Looks like it's advertised to clean baby bottles, so it should be fine on brewing equipment. But, as mentioned earlier, you would want to stick with a cleanser without a perfume in it. Also make sure you rinse good after using it. /cheers

You might ask in at a local food manufacturer/processor to see what they use. The fish processor I worked at sanitized everything with an iodine solution. I would think that type would be pretty universal.

I would agree with bleme. I have never used iodine before, however, I have a good friend that is a water engineer by trade and has always used iodine in his cleaning/sanitizing.
/cheers
