Bar Hygge supposedly opens today. Pretty excited about it and hope the beers are good. It's quite a bit closer to my house than Crime & Punishment and on the way home from work. Hope the place works out.

And now it is supposedly open with a lackluster facebook announcement after the fact. Funny. Possibly going to go there at 4:30 today to check it out for a little bit.

So Bar Hygge. Space was really nice looking. Little lounge like area off to one side, bar has a decent amount of space around it though it isn't that large. Probably 10 seats maybe? Big open air restaurant too. Beer was fine. It didn't blow me away but it was decent. I imagine it's similar to Earth, Bread, and Brewery since it's the same people. Overall, I'm excited to go there every Monday for a drink and see how it develops. Didn't try any of the food but the menu was interesting.

I had several of their small plates and the duck sliders, all of which were very good. Tried three beers; two were okay, and the porter was good.
Agree with this assessment about the beers. I tried all of their initial beers and the porter and H.O.P were decent, the smoked beer was good for a smoked beer, but the Belgian Pale was kind of terrible. I hope they have decent turnover on beers so we see all sorts of styles.

Based on my experience at Earthbread, Tom can brew a pretty solid pale ale/IPA every now and then, but I think his best beers are simple English styles. Maybe not the most exciting beer around, but it's usually well made.

Which is fine by me really. The scottish ale he had was pretty good too actually.

Now that the opening kinks have been worked out, I'm actually quite enjoying Bar Hygge. None of the beers have been exceptional but except for the Belgian Pale, they have all been at least decent. If you like doppelbocks, I really enjoyed the newest beer Exaggerator. I haven't had any food yet but some people ordered it while I was there and it looked pretty good. Still a really beautiful space and really kid friendly if that matters to you.

Any Philly bars with events on Saturday? Heading down to visit my cousins tonight and we're planning on hitting a few bars during the day tomorrow

Well they actually live about half an hour outside of the city, so basically our plan right now is that we'll drink beers and go through PhillyTapFinder when I get to their place tonight.

Best bet is to check PhillyTapfinder. I think it's actually the Craft Beer Express which means some of the more popular bars will be shitshows.

Hadn't heard about Craft Beer Express. May have to check out Varga Bar for some Tired Hands, but otherwise stick to not those bars.

Yeah it won't really affect anywhere that isn't a CBX bar but I'd probably avoid those events or at least be prepared to not enter them depending on the crowds.

Thought avoiding those was implied. The tap lists weren't very impressive either. Try fountain porter/sardine bar

Anyone have experience with Forest & Main bottle releases recently? My family and I were planning on going there Sunday but now they are apparently doing a bottle release and I want to make sure it's not horribly crowded like Tired Hands would be.

it's nothing like tired hands. the only beer that seems to draw the crowds is marius... because it's fruited. most of their others are not, including this one. if you're there at opening there might be 15-20 people waiting but for the most part their releases last well into the day and a lot of times into midweek or longer.

Thanks! Seems like it may still be worth trying to go. We'll get there at exactly 11:30 and hopefully we can just go into the restaurant since I don't really care about bottles unless I don't have to wait on line.

there might be a small line at the beginning, but if you tell your server you want a bottle or two, they'll just throw it on your bill #win

will info show up on PTF?
That's up to the bars and PhillyTapFinder, not Voodoo. He's put up most of the CBC lists so I imagine these will show up eventually. Regardless, voodoo posted the draft lists on facebook and those he listed above are the only unique beers from Voodoo. Rye Black Magick and Grand ***** will be at Bainbridge and Old Jive Turkey will be at Johnny Brendas. Misconduct just gets the regular lineup as far as I can tell.
