My local grocery store used to have 2 oxyclean products. One with a scent (can't recall the exact name) and Oxyclean free. The Oxyclean free was the one I used. Lately they only have one "new" package called Oxyclean versatile. I cannot tell if this is fragrance dye free or not.

Anyone know if the Oxcyclean free is no longer available or perhaps this versatile product took its place?

I got the regular oxyclean at Costco, works fine, I rinse several times and then soak in star san so not much of any fragrance or dye is going to survive that. ;)

Mine is "Oxyclean versatile free" so that's even more confusing. And I saw it at the store just this weekend.

Out this way oxy versitile (the one with fragrance) and oxy free are both available...

Of course - the two stores that I've found it in my tiny town aren't out in VT (target and fred meyers). Walmart SHOULD have oxy free... versitile has fragrance in it - why risk it?

I thought the non "free" versatile version just had an added soil dispersing agent(the blue crystals) and not perfume/dye. Also, I hear that that other knock off brands such as those carried are the dollar store (Sun Oxygen cleaner IIRC) works as well and are cheaper.

I called the Oxyclean folks today and they told me that Versatile has scents and dyes. They said to use Oxyclean Versatile Free or Oxyclean Baby as both are dye and scent free.

Below is web page on the product

OxiClean Free Versatile Stain Remover - Fragrance Free Laundry Products

I hope this helps!

PS....I have the versatile...aka the "wrong" Oxyclean!.....so I'm off to the store!

I have used nothing but Oxiclean Versatile for all my brewery cleaning for the last 8 years and there's no problem with it.

Oxyclean Free Versatile cleaner - Green Lid. I get mine at the local Walmart.

The OxiClean website shows:
* OxiClean Laundry Stain Remover
* OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover
* OxiClean Free Versatile Stain Remover
* OxiClean Spray-A-Way Instant Stain Remover

get "LA's Totally Awesome Oxygen" at the Dollar Tree. one $ US for one pound. No scent and no dust (it is nice prills) unlike Oxyclean which gets up in the nasal works and burns.

Damn I am going to have to grab this!!

Are there any worries with this product??

I just bought my 1st bucket tonight.. after seraching 4 stores I fianlly found some but it's just the Versatile... I have old crap parts soaking right now.

I have a question about it..Is there anything you shouldn't use it on? I have old Sankey couplers soaking right now and I plan to leave them for awhile (dirty dirty)

Aluminum pots. You can use it on Al pots, but a 5 minute soak will clean it and take the oxide layer off (you will have to boil some water to get this back), anything longer and you will start getting very dark, unwanted oxidation. And I think using it on copper might be bad too, but I have not had any experience with that.

Does the Sun Oxygen cleaner stuff have any kind of scents added to it, or is it basically the same thing as Oxiclean Free?

I just bought some of that. It's way cheaper and works just as well, on my tub it says the ingredients are sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate.

I never understood that. You want to boil water to create an oxidation layer on the pot, but oxiclean does the same thing to the pot, and you dont want that? Isnt it the same?

No, I have a hard time explaining the terminology too. If you ever let the Al pot sit in the oxyclean overnight, you will see the difference. I think difference is "protective oxide layer" and "excessive oxidation."

But, the high pH that oxy clean creates, will take off both if only exposed for a short period of time. So if you soak it too long, a short soak (10-15 minutes) will reveal a clean, shinny pot.

+1 on the Dollar Tree stuff. :rockin: It's all I use anymore. No dyes, or fragrance, and I think it actually dissolves faster than OxyClean brand, and a helluva lot cheaper.

I am a little confused here. Oxiclean supposedly offers a "Free" and a "Versatile". I just bought some Oxiclean Versatile, Stain Remover Free. It does have the green lid. It also states "Free of perfumes, dyes and chlorine". When I used it, I noticed a great deal of detergent foam compared to my old container of Oxiclean (which had none). I don't know if I have the correct one or not. None of the photos on the Oxiclean website match my product. Is there another form of Oxiclean Free that is not labled Oxiclean Versatile? Thanks.
