I know this is a thread about ****** My Beer Cellar deals, but what do you guys figure is a decent going rate for Cantillon Lou Pepe bottles on MBC or similar sites? There seem to be a lot on MBC in the $120-$150 range, which is not cheap, but I've never had any of them and I'm thinking that it might be less of a hassle to just buy one from a reseller, even if it is a little pricey.

Less of a hassle, sure. I'd try to trade for them, depending on if you have decent ammo. Of course obtaining "decent ammo" can be a lot of work. Specialty beer bars will have them on site for far less of a mark up than MBC's $120-$150 range (usually $60-$80, which is still heavily marked up).

Save your money and buy a few gueze/kriek/rose online...just my opinion.

At least he's considerate enough to provide a Google Docs link to his $5500 lot of decaying barrel-aged ****. And of course he leads off with "3 Floyds Dark Lord and varietals" and the "varietal" ends up being Moscatel. Could very well be a case of #str8grossin.

Packing material cost for 1 bottle = $6  Where's he buying his packing materials?

Are people beginning to use "varietal" in reference to beer?

Please, no. Beer sucks.

There have been a handful of people targeting these sites and scamming people by making them use Friends and Family and then never shipping anything.

One of them targeted the wrong person who used to track down people for a living. He, and nearly everyone he knew, quickly found out that was a poor idea.

Starring Liam Neeson, right? Sounds like a good date night show for the man bun crowd.

That barrel is in terrible condition. If you really want a BCBS barrel then I guess it's cool, but empty bourbon barrels aren't particularly hard to get (I can get as many as I want for free from a local brewer here) and given its condition doing anything with it would be difficult. And that's all ignoring the idiotic price.

I would assume the appeal, or seller's reasoning for the ridiculous price gouging is the branding on the barrel, not necessarily the barrel itself.

Right, but why would anyone want a BCBS barrel that badly? Used bourbon barrels aren't particularly hard to come by for really low prices, and $1500 for some logos is insane.

People are willing to spend $1,000 for 12 oz. of beer. Trying to figure out why someone would pay in situations like this is an exercise in futility.
