So normally I do the yeast starter 24-30 hrs before I will use the yeast and it has worked out well so far. Well no dice. I forgot to do it until today and it will only have been going for about 8 hours if I dump it in once im done. If I stick the wort in a fermenter till tomorrow with an airlock and then dump the yeast in tomorrow will that be okay or will that cause problems. Would appreciate any feedback. Otherwise ill be tossing it in today and praying that it activates relatively well.

Cheers,

Yeah I think you’ll be ok if you put the wort in the fermenter overnight and make starter and pitch later. Do you need to do a starter? What’s the viability?

I'm assuming the starter is already in progress.
What's the volume and OG of the batch, and how old is the yeast?

Imo it's probably a toss-up which way to go but I don't like leaving wort un-inoculated for any length of time beyond the minimum, so unless the math is obviously bad (high OG or more than ~5 gallons or older yeast) if the yeast was less than a month old I'd be inclined to pitch what you have and give the wort as much O2 as you can...

Cheers!

You are not the first brewer that this has happened to as can be seen from a link below. I think part of the decision in what direction to take would depend upon your batch size and the production date of the liquid yeast and its estimated beginning cell count. I take it you do not have another vial of yeast or the equivalent dry yeast on hand, correct?

Hey Guys thanks for the quick response. Its a 5 gallon batch. OG is around 1.050. Yeast started started roughly 8 hours ago. Yeast was bought yesterday. No other yeast strain I can use at the moment unfortunately.

What was the date on the yeast package? What yeast are you using?
