The new Betise was a bourbon bomb out of a tulip glass. Huge flavor as well. Not a bad thing, but that'd be a beer I'd share with a big group. 4 oz is plenty. Much more tart than the last batch too. I'll be laying that one down for a bit.
The color on that Blackberry Maigre was beautiful. I liked the hoppy saison quite a bit, and my buddies were all about the tart saison even moreso than Cuvier. I thought the oak rounded things out nicely for Cuvier.
What a nice Sunday though. Great layout. Great flow/vibe. I broke records for meeting new internet friends at this one. Kicked things off with sleuthdog Lognar & jakeox then met mjohnson17 for my first lambic basket experience. Shared some beers and BS with Rizdac & Ryan from ABV Chicago along with ClCardinal84. I tried yelling tinypyramids across the barrels but he couldn't hear me and I had to finish off the Saison du Fermier myself. Probably saw other folks too but those were confirmed TBers. I did finally get a taste of that cherry soda as my buddy blended some with Ardent, which was quite tasty.
By the time we got over to Beer Temple things couldn't have been smoother. Snagged another Buckley while I was there along with what I bought online. The detour over to Honey Butter Friend Chicken on the way was key. That place lived up to the hype. It's good to pick up a Chicagoan to guide you around and find those key spots. Cheers to all. These releases are easily the high point for craft beer meetups in Chicago.
