This is my first one of these. I've heard there's a bottle share element to the event.

Is that something just taking place outside before it starts or can you bring bottles into the event to share as well?

had a great time. much more streamlined than the last event. ardent and the mango chili gose were tops. new betise is awesome. blackberry maigre had a bizarre aroma (maybe a little cheesy?) but the taste was legit. beer temple extras pickup was easy peasy. reupped.

edit: also, dat cherry soda.

Thoughts from the release:

-Best layout yet, everything was incredibly easy
-Taplist didn't blow me out of the water, but there were a ton of solid offerings...I wish the mango chili salarium had more mango and chili, but it was still fantastic, blackberry maigre was exceptionally jammy on the front end, but finished with some prominent diacetyl notes, really hope that cleans up b/c that could be a beautiful beer. Cuvier is a very nice beer, more barrel fermentation please
-Really dig Transient's integration of everything local. Whether it be other local Brewers helping out, Pleasant House always holding it down, or Screens n Suds selling prints. Very cool to have such a community based event that isn't overrun by tickers and fanboys. These releases are exactly what the beer scene should be.
-Really great seeing all the usual suspects. Ton of great people in this reserve society.

That kinda reminded me of a phish parking lot. Posters for sale, dogs on rope leashes, lot food, illegal goods for sale (ok not that).

Cuvier was my highlight. Also had cask Brett Saison with Cherry Soda and Henry was delicious as always. Looking forward to some Buckley in the next few nights.

Event was fantastic,
At first, the ticketed line seemed long, but it was cut down to no wait as the event went on and the non ticketed line was always just a walk up. Everything was so much smoother than last release.

Blackberry Maigre was the highlight for me and everything else was great. It tasted like the whole blackberry bush was thrown into the beer. Didnt pick up and diacetyl.
Ardent and whatever the hoppy saison was were really really nice.
Buckley was wonderful as usual, but seemed a bit different than last batch.
Brett Saison was true to its name and pretty good.
Betise was crazy sour, too sour, but still tasted good.
Sporadic 3 was also quite sour, along the lines of sporadic 1 but not as sour as betise and tasted great.

Cherry soda........ oh my lawdy lawdy that was tasty..... mixed that **** with Florence for a poor mans Flora Cherry.

Was great to meet a bunch, soooo many, of people:
Lognar its always a pleasure. You need to make it to the city more often.
sleuthdog glad I could finally meet the man Lognar is always praising.
jakeox great to meet another Chicago proper guy... all these damn suburbans... it was good talking with you and hopefully I see you around Chicago.
bourbonbob.... we didn't get Nico weird... :(... next time... but it was great to meet you!
Rizdac? Craig and I think Ryan as well? I think it was you that tipped me off about the cherry soda? Great talking with you... if it was you...ha. And keep me posted about that Saison Fest.
ClCardinal84 We didnt get to talk much, but it was good to meet you.
SSideTROLLer it was great talking with you for most of the event, hopefully i'll see you at some other places around town and thanks for the backcrushing amount of beer!! I have so much more drinking for tonight!

Hope I didnt forget someone.

Saw PHBoiler but didnt have a chance to introduce myself... next time.
And I missed the powz87 zubas!

Buckley was wonderful as usual, but seemed a bit different than last batch.

tinypyramids and I were discussing whether this is a different batch than the one that was at the last release, or it was the same batch that time just chilled. The last release was harshly bitter to me, like burnt espresso. The stuff they had on today was much smoother and allowed the other flavors to come out, as well as let that super chewy mouthfeel cling. It was really great today.

And Bark Lord is even better. The cinnamon is wonderfully used; Not overpowering at all. Just a subtle taste that lingers. This is one of the best stouts I've had in a long time.

Ardent was amazing, too. It reminds me of the shelf offerings of Crooked Stave, only better.

The cherry soda was another highlight. Definitely cinnamon in that, too. At the next release, I am seriously considering asking about getting a growler fill. That stuff would make a killer ice cream float...

Yep. All of the flavors of the buckley at last release seemed much more intense, which I kinda preferred. I had a bottle last night, that seemed in line with what was on tap today which makes me think that todays was a part of a new and tweaked batch. Still great all around.

Did you open a bottle of Bark Lord or did it eventually go on tap? Sounds like more goodness packed into an already good thing!

Oh my god yes... yes... yes...
I guess Rizdac was trying to convince Chris to make a growler of the cherry soda the reward for renewing the membership early, which is a fantastic idea and worlds better than a water bottle.

What a great day. Until I got to Beer Temple and had to hear a #newmoney bitch about how he didn't get any Bark Lord and how it wasn't fair and he was going to send Chris a message. Finally had to say "it's just beer, dude." Still a great day and had a blast meeting those I met.

Bottle. I had house work to do after getting home and thought "**** it..."

And continuing on that decision: Cherry Pentameter.

The smell brings back childhood days at the local public pool. There's a kind of bleach scent that falls away to cherry pie filling. It isn't unpleasant, just... different.

The bottle overflowed when I opened it but it's very mildly carbonated. After the initial gush, the head dissipated to nothing. Dark red color. Cloudy.

On the mouth I still get a little of that bleach thing. But it's wonderful otherwise. Big tart cherry, not at all overly sweet or pie-like. Not too sour, just enough to dry your mouth out enough to want another sip.

It's good and potentially great if the swimming pool aspect wasn't so distracting.

Totally was/am. Ever since I had his cherry soda at the first member release, I've been telling anyone who would listen to try it. It was a bit too foamy (at least today) to try to get a growler of it filled, but that might be my mission next release party.

Great talking with Farnsworth jakeox PHBoiler SSideTROLLer Dunt and anyone else I may have missed. Wanted a Lognar tick, but didn't see him there. Was really hoping to try Cherry Pentameter, but Chris said he bottled all of it, so no kegs exist (same goes for Bark Lord, as he bottled the remainder, hence not on tap at the event).

Met no one... Kept looking for Julian please and never saw him or Howard Stern. Still had a great time. Sporadic 3 was a standout for me. Obligatory was interesting, simultaneously tasting like both trash and tropical hops--had to get two glasses to figure out what was going on. Everything was super smooth and the space never felt overly crowded. Still need to pick up my beer from Beer Temple, but don't expect any issues.

Also went to Hop Leaf afterwards and got an Alpha Kong. Talk about disappointing. The beer was a total let down. Like a winter warmer with Belgian yeast, lots of spice at the finish and just a bit of sweetness. If this is actually what Alpha Kong use to taste like beer sure has evolved a whole lot since then.

I thought Blackberry Maigre was the highlight too. Really loved the fruit situation there.

I guess my only beef was the fact doors opened 20 minutes late leaving Chris's membership out in the cold. Not a catastrophe but damn it was cold. I'd at least make an announcement that we are running a bit late with set up and bear with us if I were him.

I was a big fan of the way they ran the event today (minus the slightly late start). Draft lines were super smooth. I probably met some TB'ers but I can never connect real people with their TB handle. I really liked Betise and Ardent, Buckley obviously too. Already looking forward to the next one.

Today was far and away the best run event yet. Aside from the doors opening a little later than usual everything else was spot on. Less crowded, nearly no draft lines, I never even had a ticket collected in the member draft line, plus people were walking by with pitchers of the draft beers so a few times I never even had to get in line, the beer was brought to me.
Can we talk about how that Port-a-potty was 100x better than the bathroom situation last release.

The pies were phenomenal as usual. I slacked a bit in getting food and bought the only, and very last pie they had left, the mushroom & kale. I wanted a meat pie, but as soon as it hit my mouth I wasn't even mad. Dunt is right, that thing was awesome!

Was nice meeting a lot of you guys today! Definitely the best run one yet. Blackberry Maigre was my fav as well and didn't get any diacetyl either. Just like was said earlier, like a blackberry-oatmeal cookie.
Just wish I could've stuck around a bit longer, but when work makes you go to Minneapolis, do I say no to Surly on the company dime? :D

Anyone willing to trade a cherry penta for 2 buckleys and a bark lord?

FT: buckley x 2 + Bark lord
ISO: Cherry Penta

I like b1 Betise more than b2. Maybe the flavors of b2 haven't developed fully enough but the flavor of b1 was more complex and more depth. Using decanted bourbon barrels rather than just oak barrels gives the flavor that edge up.

Can anyone shed a little light on what was going on with/used in Obligatory, the APA yesterday? It smelled amazing like peach rings almost, but the taste and body fell short. I still enjoyed it quite a bit, but the taste was very subdued versus the smell.

Betts' email said "whiskey barrels" for this batch.
