I know this is like asking "which one is your favorite child" but curious your thoughts on the 3 lambic style beers released. Had a good debate in the tasting room with folks about their favorites and the consensus - though far from unanimous - seemed to be Lucy > Boysen > Deux Tetes.

Maybe I'm too wishy-washy, but I felt like it was a dead heat. That ranking almost seemed to follow from least funky to most funky and, me ... I like they pasture funk. Complete assumptions, and putting thoughts into people's heads, but I felt like coming off of drinking the fruited Bu's, people didn't favor The Boysen as much since it moved away from pure expression of fruit by adding the lambic element ... while with The Lucy it was "easier" to accept the wine grape / lambic interplay. And, finally, I think the funk of Deux Tetes surprised people that were thinking "cider" and, maybe, expecting to be dissapointed. For me that was the big pleasant surprise in that it was so much more substantial and complex than I went in expecting.

And, uh, curious if you named it Deux Tetes expecting that people with poor French comprehension would mistranlate as ...

Either way, nice verbal mischief.

Deux Tetes was my favorite. Still is. The most complex. Yes, the nose is funky, but a huge component of the mixture is the richness from younger oak contribution. I heard baby diaper (opened two bottles that night and disagreed) and I think that the power of suggestion plays heavily. A subtle sulpher influence is there, but I find that a positive contribution as it layers with the Brett influence.
Not uncommon in wild juice ferments, and we won't aggressively treat our beer. But hey, that's just my opinion!
People expecting cider... It's almost half apple? A big impetus behind the collab was our shared love of Lambic and funky Basque/wild cider. The goal was to emulate an Oregon equivalent of a theoretical mixed ferment. Having just been over there, I personally think we nailed it in our own way. But yeah, a complex wild apple ferment doesn't give an 'appley' character. It's more vinous and/or comparable to wild beer.

The Boysen gets a slight nod over The Lucy for me. Again, more layered. But that's just my pallet. There's no wrong.
Either way, you are correct that it's a tough choice, at least for me.

Regarding the Deux Tetes... Are we children (not directed at you)? There's a few folks that seem to think two T's and an S automatically spells 'tits'. And gloss over that they're correctly interpreting the Deux part. There's no clever wordplay there, just sophomoric humor.
I would hate to ask for a couple 'pens'.
Eh, I'm getting grumpy. Sorry!

Thanks for sharing - cool hearing your thoughts and impressions. I too was disagreeing with the "diaper" comment and saying not all funk is diaper. Also nice hearing my palette isn't totally worthless since I felt there was a lot more barrel / oak coming in on the end of Deux Tetes than the others.

Hope I didn't offend on the comment regarding the name. Didn't mean to imply you thought that was clever wordplay. But as soon as I saw the name I thought some of the folks that can't pronounce the French names of your other beers are certainly going to think this means something a bit ribald. Just didn't know if that was (partially) intentional. You may be above a little sophomoric mischief ... but I'm not!

Absolutely no offense taken.
And yeah man, if you read around here I'm obviously prone to ******* around.

I don't want or expect beer to be too serious (getting WAY too much that way anyhow).

Have there been any DG beers released that use second run fruit from what I'm guessing is the large amount of fruit that goes in to the Bu's or other fruited beers? Something along the lines of Jester King's La Vie en Rose, Detritivore, etc.

Yes. This is the internet afterall. Therefore, we're all 15 years old.

I also have the maturity of a 15 year old.

I'm sensitive to sulfur, so I'm really not a fan of how "two tits" smells, but if I just let a glass of it sit for a few minutes, the smell dissipates. That makes me pretty happy since I love how the beer tastes.

Oude English is without a doubt the most drinkable strong dark sour beer I've had. Also, Morningstar is pretty crushable now that the brett has thoroughly taken over and I remember it being pretty hard for me to finish a 4 oz when fresh.

Not trying to blow up this thread, but is anyone going to De Garde tomorrow that would be interested in a trade for Tree House/Nebco or a goandpickitupformebro? If so, PM me.
