^ I'm still learning. I don't see where the "obnoxious" part of that post is. May I suggest a slight adjustment?

I'd say the Patriots success is "mostly" attributed to Tom Brady's whining and subsequent customized rulebook.

But that's just me, as a Patriot hater who also can accept facts.

I think looking through the history of most any sports team it's ownership. Kraft had some struggles initially but adjusted quickly and from there the Patriots started to succeed. It was unsustained mediocrity before that if you were lucky. Plus he's one hell of an audition coach for actresses.

All obnoxiousness aside. I agree with this. I hate the Pats, but I'd be stupid if I wasn't jealous. Belichick was NOT a no brainer and Kraft worked hard to get him. Brady is obviously a godsend in the 6th round and a huge part.

I don't really think all that highly of Belichick the player personnel guy, but Belichick the coach manages to get great performances from players no matter how deep into the depth chart he has to dig.

Now I have to go vomit because not even castor oil can nauseate me more then compliments for the Pats.

You can't even take a compliment without getting defensive over something as innocuous as

I look at individual acquisitions/draft picks to determine his record at player personnel, not Ws and Ls. I think he's a good coach with a great QB who can overcome his own player personnel mistakes like Lawrence Maroney, Ron Brace, Terrance Wheatly, Taylor Price and Bethel Johnson. He does a good job getting a year or two out of certain free agents, but the Danny Ammedola, Jonathan Fanene, and Adalius Thomas signings make it a mixed bag.

Funny... The guy questioning everyone's intellect is the same guy who doesn't get it. May your next fart have no air

WTF is up with all the small talk?

Focus, people!

On the current top dawg in the NFL!
Yes, that's right. PAT PATRIOT!

A lotta ragin' hatin' going on out there in Lesser Team Land I'm sure :ban:

btw, who gives better press than Ryan? Honest to gawd, the media plays him like a sweet Les Paul.
Vegas can shove that ten point spread up their collective a$$e$, I'm quite sure Rex has been conducting multiple Come To Jesus meetings and the J-E-T-S will come out like it's their Super Bowl.

Which - let's face it - it totally is.

Sad for them...

Cheers! ;)

Name a GM that has had more success

The funny thing about Belichick the GM is that he's kind of bipolar... When it comes to off-season acquisitions, he's kind of hit-and-miss. For every Revis and Browner signing, there's a Adalius Thomas (yeah, I'll grant JBay that one) or a Haynesworth. And for every Brady, Mayo, and Gronk draft, there's probably a pair of bad WR drafts (face it, dude cannot draft a WR) and a couple others that just don't pan out.

But when it comes to in season signings to fill gaps? Who makes pickups like Bellichick? Who finds cast-offs mid-season like Ayers or Branch this year, or Talib a couple years ago (fragile, yes, but an outstanding corner when healthy, absolutely). I can't think of any in-season pick-ups Belichick has made lately that have flopped, or that haven't added significantly to the team, for that matter.

Every GM has misses in the draft. You can't just go on that - you have to look at the whole picture.

Every GM has misses .

this is what drives me crazy when this topic comes up... Everyone can focus in like a laser on Amandola or Maroney... or whoever else that hasn't been a pro-bowler for the PAts and they btcih, "Ewwwww.. Belichick is such a crappy personnel guy".

Name me a freakin' GM that picks up 20 guys a season through the draft and free agency and ends up with 20 pro-bowlers.

NO GM has a success rate like that. EVERY GM gets guys that work out better than they thought and EVERY GM gets guys that work out worse than they thought.

The proof is in the results. There is no other measure that makes any sense at all. "Ewwww... He gave Amendola all that money". And what place are they in? A GM's job is to put the best team possible on the field and right now the Pats are the number one seed in the AFC East and widely picked as the #1 team in the league right now... so the Amendola haters can suck it.

Belichick does things slightly different than a lot of teams. He has a value on every grade of position on the team. What I mean is... say you can rank the skill of a player from 1-100 with 100 being the best. In Belichick's process, he can't have "100" players at every position because you can't pay 52 "100s" with the salary cap (See Seattle Seahawks). Like I said, he then assigns a dollar number to each position given the cap.

so... for the Pats... a "90 offensive guard" is worth X while a 85 offense guard is worth 75% of X. That's why Logan Mankins is gone... it's why Richard Seymour was gone... and Lawyer Milloy... They were making 95+ money at their position and 1) they weren't 95+ players anymore and 2) Belichick simply didn't need a 95+ player AT that position because he shifted resources elsewhere.

But no one sees that... all they see is "Logan Mankins sent packing" and everyone loses their mind. "Ohhhhh what a shtty GM!!".

Really?? How's that workin' out now?

Do every one of his moves work out?? No... of course not. NO ONE'S does.. but like I said... name me one GM who's been more successsful.

I'm not sure anyone has posted a name yet from when I asked last time.

I'll miss Rexy's press conferences and bravado, but it's long grown stale. When they were winning it was one thing. When they were average it was annoying. Now that they truly suck it's pathetic.

The really sad thing is that most Jets fans won't even tune in to this week's game. Why would anyone subject themselves to that? At this point in the season winning is worse than losing; there's a draft to at least look ahead to. I suspect that it will still be a close game because Rexy does kinda/sorta have Brady's number, but that offense...dear god it's horrific.

Um, he played good in the Super Bowl, helped us win a couple games early and we ditched him when he wasn't useful anymore. Great point Cape.

Please please PLEASE send Cutler to the Jets. That would be gold Jerry, gold!

"Why it would happen: Because ignoring all the warning signs and bringing Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari to Gotham is the most Jetsy thing imaginable. John Idzik, Rex Ryan, Geno Smith and Michael Vick could all be swept out in the next few months. The next regime could select a quarterback in the draft and tab Cutler as a short-term solution while the kid is groomed. There are PSLs to sell, you know.

Why it wouldn't happen: Because, if there's a God up there, he knows Jets fans have already suffered too much."

I actually made reference to that ability of him to get performances out of guys who nobody else could. It's a subtle difference but I'm giving those points to Belichick the coach rather then Belichick the GM.

Obviously it's going to be hard to separate the two, so I really just judge the GM performance by higher profile player acquisitions and draft choices. If a team is killing it with a bunch of late rounders and kind of whiffs on the early rounders, I credit the coach for that, not the gm for being a great "late round drafter".

Okay, I'll bite although I really doubt it would happen.

Cutler would be a massive upgrade over what we currently have. Geno / Vick? The Jets easily have the least talented QBs in the league. We're going to finish the season outside the top 5 in the draft which ensures that we'll miss out on Mariotta and Crab Legs. The best free agent QB in the off season is Mark Sanchez. Reflect on that.

Also consider that the Jets have a huge amount of cap room and would be getting a great deal on Cutler - a 3rd / 4th round pick at best.

The Jets can use their 1st round pick on player like Amari Cooper. The offense now has Cooper, Decker, Harvin at WR, Jace Amaro at TE, Ivory at RB - that's not a bad offense right there.

Yeah I know Cutler can be infuriating and the talent around him in Chicago is vastly superior to the Jets, but it wouldn't be an atrocious trade by the Jets especially if he only costs a 3rd round pick. Cutler is a physically gifted QB that makes dumb decisions from time to time, but that's so much better than two untalented QBs that make dumb decisions ALL the time.
