Ok, I feel a little silly for asking but this is the second one I've gotten with a big mouth bubbler. Could somebody please tell me what this is and what it's for? Is it an April off some sort?

Its a computer keyboard, used for typing on a computer. JK

I really don't know what that is, but it does look like it has a function.
 
I guess the more I look at it, and mess with it, it's an airlock of sorts. It snaps on to the small call on the large lid and then, maybe, you fill the recessed area with water.

Yes, this is what it is. My Kegco Wide Mouth Carboy has this. You screw it on where that cap is and fill the recess with sanitizer. It works, but it's really kind of inconvenient should you have to move the carboy. I've used mine twice and it works, but it's not my favorite.
