Anvil foundry or propane?

Don't buy anything assuming you're going to be brewing extract even by the end of this year. Brewing 100% grain in an all in one is like making bread in a bread maker and it's almost always upside judging by what percentage of brewers stick with it. Sure, there are some stories about people going back, but it's a tiny percentage.

The Foundry does have the very real benefit of dual voltage and future flexibility.

Propane is extremely inconvenient due to all the required tank fills which is a waste of time and money and more than half the energy is blown into the air. A batch would cost me $12 in propane or $1.85 in electricity.

My plan is to move to all grain once I get the anvil foundry. I like me extract but I really want to start biab so I can learn more and experiment. Your post helped me make my mind up more. Thanks

I think you meant this as a compliment, but I disagree with your analogy. Brewing 100% grain with a pico brew was like making bread in a bread maker. Brewing with an all in one is like making bread with a kitchen aid mixer instead of kneading by hand. You have to know how to make bread, but it makes one of the steps easier. Too many people think that an AIO is somehow cheating or that it isn’t as pure as brewing with a three vessel system. It doesn’t do anything for you other than control temperature.

Like most us, I started with extract. After 3... maybe 4 extract brews, I tried a partial mash. The difference was so significant, I went straight to all grain and never turned back. Of course this was almost 30 years ago. Extracts may of come a long way since then.
