I brewed a baltic porter on monday afternoon. I started my yeast starter that morning. I chlled the wort to 44° and pitched first thing tuesday morning. It is now Friday evening and the air lock is not bubbling. I checked the gravity and it is still at OG. Below are some details. What should i do now?

OG 1.080
2 vials of wlp830 german lager with 1 gallon starter on a stir plate.
Fermenting at 53°

Help please?

Did the starter show activity? Lager yeast often take a lot longer to start. I seriously doubt a one gallon starter on the stir plate for less than 24 hours was ready to pitch. I typically make my lager starters several days in advance.

Assuming your yeast was good it should start, but you will want to leave it on the yeast for a while do it cleans up a lot of the junk it may create in the process.

The starter didnt really show any kind of activity. This is my first experience with lager yeast. I just thought the lack of activity was because it was a lager yeast. I have never had a problen with yeast not taking off in the past with any of my ales. I also know that the chances of getting a bad vial of yeast is slim to none and two is unheard of. I am going to bump the temp up to 60 and see if that does anything. Any other ideas?

If the yeast is viable it will eventually start. Bumping the temp up to get it started will help some but you may get some fruitiness. Keep in mind lager yeast is bottom fermenting so you won't get the huge appearance an ale would show you.

I had the same issue with my first lager and I learned to make the lager starter further in advance and wait until it started. But that doesn't help you now.
