Ive started treating my brew water with campden tabs to eliminate chloramines in my tap water. Does anyone bother treating the water they use to wash yeast from the fermenter? Only just started to play around with yeast washing/harvesting and have just boiled a gallon of tap water and let cool before adding to the yeast cake up to this point. There is chloramine in the tap water for sure per our local water report.

Chloramine can be harmful to yeast. Always using good brewing water for anything brewing related. Yeast rinsing can also be harmful to yeast. Better to just pour the yeast from the fermentor and store in the frig with the more nutritious beer on top. Plain water will deplete the yeast. Viability will decrease much faster than when stored under the beer that remained in the fermentor.

Good thread on yeast harvesting and storage.
