My BIL is going to NZ this month. Mainly on the south island. Are there micro breweries there? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't know any breweries there, but I would definitely bring some hops back if possible.

Yes, there are plenty. If he visits the Nelson area (where the bulk of our hops are grown) he'll be spoilt for choice.

We have a bunch of decent breweries in the south island. In Wanaka (where I live) I think we have more breweries per capita than anywhere else in the country. Nelson has the hops, Dunedin has the Speights macro brewery (the tour is worth doing, I did it yesterday).

I live in Nelson. There are some good breweries here but also good bars which have beers from around the country as well.

Hop Federation, Mussell Inn, Golden Bear, Eddyline (Colorado franchise), Sprig and Fern, Townsends are all good. Nothing spectacular though.

Peckham Cidery does amazing old world ciders if you're into that.

Best craft bars are Freehouse, Craft Beer Depot, and the workshop.
