I am a terrible beer packager. I love to drink beer but making it and racking not so much. A lot stems from the tubing initially gave to me which I think is to short. It makes it hard to use the clip to hold auto siphon. Furthermore my auto siphon started acting weird, working poorly, adding oxygen. So I clipped the inside tube with home depot clips, using a light, right at the bottom and as carefully (mouth full of starsan) started the siphon. Any ideas on starting siphon without mouth and should i keep trying this technique or buy another siphon. You have to look hard but you can see siphon tip right above trub.

I would highly recommend buying a new autosiphon. I have heard of a technique that involves dripping starsan into the tubing and then pouring it out to start the siphon but I'm not sure of the specifics. Another tip to reduce O2 pickup is to use the smallest ID tubing possible that will still fit your siphon and/or spigot.

First, in a pinch I have filled a tube with starsan solution and used pinch valves to close both ends. Connect to racking cane, lower one end to a jar and let the starsan initiate the siphon. Once you get beer coming out, pinch it closed and move the output end to the desired destination (secondary, keg, bottling bucket, whatever).

I now used CO2 pressure to start my siphon. I run CO2 into my ferm at low pressure, creating a positive pressure inside. This forces the beer out the racking cane. Once it's going, I leave some CO2 going in to reduce oxidation risk, but at that point it's just a siphon process. To facilitate this, I got a dual port lid for my big mouth bubbler and have a hose that connect to my CO2 tank on one end and a carboy stopper on the other.

it's a plastic bucket. how about putting a spigot about an inch and a half from the bottom?

Yeah I forgot that was my plan, thanks. I need it around the one gallon mark. I can take it apart and clean it every time. For bottling buckets the spigot is too low. Then maybe I could drain the yeast into jars.
