I have it easy, with all the acclaimed breweries in my, pretty much, immediate area. Also easy to get inspired and poor.

Bought myself a Midwest starter kit with a glass carboy after being gifted the renowned "How To Brew" book for Christmas. Picked up Midwest's Citral Pale Ale and it's been in primary for 10 days now. Went ahead and funked with the additions: 5 tbsp of oat flour(was only trying to pick up the viscosity and found out later that oat flakes are the way to go[patted myself on the back for that one]) with the DME before the boil. Hop additions followed the recipe. Last minute immersion wort chiller was $60 well spent. SG = 1.049. Fermentation went quick with the Wyeast activator. Before transferring to secondary, I dry hopped with an ounce of Citra whole cones. FG = 1.010. That was 3 days ago.

Tonight I'm racking to secondary. I'll follow the recipe the rest of the way. But I do have another ounce of Citra cones. Should I add them? When?

I'm excited to start brewing, learn the process and best practices, and getting input from you all. Feel free to comment, criticize, and encourage.

Up next, a porter!

Double dry-hopping will help if you like trillium more than harpoon. More the merrier in terms of hops. Otherwise, save if for when you get comfortable and many do your own recipes or adjust others with confidence.

Why do you have another ounce left if you followed the recipe?

PS-I noticed i'm 5 days late to the game. Maybe save them.

Good luck from Plymouth

DEFINITELY trillium over harpoon.

The kit didn't come with the cones. I bought 2 oz of Citra cones, and 4 oz Nugget pellets, extra for kicks. I'll be saving.

Going all grain with my next(2nd ever) batch. Made a cooler mash tun and I'm ready for business!

I just started an English bitter ale and added 1oz citra pellet hops at flame out let it sit in the wart for 15 minutes before I transfered to my fermenting pale. When I transfered I discarded the hops. From this I can tell you that there is a strong smell of citra. Use cautiously
