Thank you in advance for reading this and offering your advice.

The first stage I used a stir plate for about 24 hours then put in the fridge for about 24 hours and decanted this am. When I went to pour in the new cooled wort this am, I swirled the flask to mix up the existing yeast. (This is a 1L starter.)

The yeast was in clumps and didn't "mix" in while swirling. I poured in the new wort and put it on my stir plate. It is still clumpy.

I'm using Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes.

Is this normal?
Should I have let the yeast warm to room temp first b4 pouring in the new wort?
Will this make a difference?
Is the yeast still good?
Will it eventually mix into the new wort?

Again, thank you for your advice and Happy New Year!

Sounds like you're using something like 007 or 002? If so it's normal, those kind of strains are highly flocculent and will clump.

Sounds perfectly normal Amazing yeast strain! It's also a monster, make sure you have loads of headspace or a good blowoff. I've had this strain almost foam over a 5 L Erlemeyer. Out of curiousity, what are you planning to brew with it?

Ironically I'm doing a starter right now for the exact same strain. It's my first time using it and I underestimated it's power. Worked the night shift last night. First pic is before I left for work and the 2nd is when I got home 12 hours later after I cleaned up the mess from the overspill. I had to shut the stir plate off. I was going to ask on here, I wound up losing some noticeable mLs, should I do another light step up to make up for the loss?

I shut down the stirplate just in time, but this yeast gets wild very quickly. Not sure about another light step up but I can't see how it would hurt your case.

I'm brewing a Persephone's Deception Pomegranate Dubbel extract kit from northern brewer.
This is my third extract brew since starting this hobby on 11/4/17

Is there any problem using Fermcap-S? A use 1 drop in 2L starters and works great. Never had overspill.
