need help how many times can i grow yeast from a starter

I cant seem to find an answer as to how many batches i can make from a smack pack. I just bought a fresh pack of 1056 and started a 1 qt starter. After its done i want to cold crash it and wash it so i can pull additional starters from it. How many times can i grow starter from my original starter..
 
I've grown mine this way up to 10x. Prob could go more because its so clean i just haven't tried it yet.
 
For a half a pack of US -05, how much dextrose and water and time is ideal for a starter? I only ask because I used half in 7 ounces of warm water with a scoop of dextrose... for 45 mins.

Generally you don't make a starter from a dry yeast like US-05, you just rehydrate them... And even then people debate how useful it is. Starters are made with liquid yeast, and you're looking at 24h timeframes from what I understand.
 

I have read this a few time but was unsure as to how many times you can wash a starter. In the past I have always I have always made about 21 batches from a single pack by washing my first batch and getting 4 new pints and then repeating the process after using the last pint. once i hit the fifth wash I've noticed the yeast starts to become unpredictable.
 
Once it becomes unpredictable that's when I would stop. 21 batches is a good value for a $7 pack. I would start with fresh yeast when they start to get that unpredictable.
 
If your going with one pack, ur best bet is slanting.

There are different arguments as to how many generations u can get from one batch of beer before it starts to change into a slurry that will give off different and undesired flavors. I've read some people say 7-8, others have said upwards of 10-12. But if u slant, ur always on the same generation, just build a starter and step it up once or twice and ur good to go. If im not mistaken, this is how a lot of people do it. Buy one big order of different yeasts from an online HBS when they are having a sale, slant the various strains and it keeps them going throughout the year.
