LOL! Seriously though, a few years back the park service posted warnings for a cougar which had been spotted near the Platte River Campground. The DNR still denies any cougars in the lower peninsula despite photographic proof. They contend that the photos are of escaped or released pets.
The DNR really upsets me on this one, because you are correct - they do deny it.
I was in the woods one night in the Lower Peninsula (southwest corner of the state) and was stalked by a cougar. The noises it made when it got close were bone chilling and that whole experience scared the absolute crap out of me.
A couple years later I'm driving down the highway in the middle of no where and one was watching me from the side of the highway. They are out there. Don't know why the DNR refuses to acknowledge it.
And all you skyline guessers thought you were only going to look at skylines today! Bet you didn't think you'd be learning about the faults of the MI DNR...
