The snake river canyon in south central Washington?

So very close I am tempted to give it to you. But I won't because my feelings are hurt. I was hoping to put up a challenge and instead have you almost nail it first try.

Here was my backup clue. This is nearby.

Your second picture looks like John Day Dam on the Columbia River.

I am going to go with this, I have no idea of the dams name as I have never driven past it, I don't drive anywhere. The first picture is from one of two routes I used to fly back when this photo was taken. Either Pasco Wa or Pendleton OR. Either way the terrain was after just exiting the Columbia River Gorge, way short of Devils Canyon or the Snake River.

BTW Pasco is South of Hanford WA. When I was in Pasco, people I met were concerned when the superfund clean up effort of Hanford WA stops the tri-city area's economy will tank.

Minky you are up.

Major props to MadKing. The coolest way IMO to get an answer right or almost so is to actually recognize the terrain.

I didn't know what to do with your first picture, Photopilot, but with your second picture, and the clue that Snake River was close, I found a map of dams along the Snake and Columbia rivers. When I got to the Columbia River, I just kept going until I found a dam that looked like the one in your picture. The very distinctive sandbars just west of the dam made the search a little quicker, and helped verify it is the John Day dam.

That looks like something I've seen on ice road truckers, I'm going to guess Alaska?

Petticoat junction.

Except for the SouthWest of the US it could be anywhere in the US.

Well, how odd to hear such criticisms after the nondescript mountainous regions with no discernible landmarks or those obscured by smoke! :)

OK, I wanted to make it a little challenging, but I wasn't sure how recognizable it would be. Apparently clues are in order.

Photopilot's guess is surprisingly close.

Next time I'm up I'm going to post a photo of a tree in a field lol. Just giving you a hard time, carry on.

I know what you mean Minky, but honestly every town in Mississippi has about 15 intersections that look just like this.

My originally intended post was going to be challenging but identifiable. However you suggested I was out looking for a pic to challenge the crowd and I did not want to disappoint, so I went back to the photo library for a tough image to identify.

The first guess was within 100 miles of the spot the photo was taken. The only reason I did not give it to Mad King with his first guess is he said the Snake River. If he said Eastern WA or OR, we'd be guessing one of his photo now.

OK, so I hope we can agree that Martian landscapes and sunsets over water, without any unique characteristics are also not in the spirit of the game. :D

Florida travelers, especially old guys like me, should know this spot.

OK, obviously the appearance of this intersection is not unique enough. It actually has a US Census Place Name, and I'm going to yell out my next clue like a true southerner. TURNPIKE AHEAD, y'all.

Yeehaw Junction, Florida.

Found with the hint of Florida, and typed in Cross Roads.

You got it, Konadog. I honestly didn't know how tough it would be because I went through there every time I crossed the state from Tampa to see my friends in Melbourne. Some of the buildings have been torn down since so, as I learned, it's just not unique enough.
