After realizing at the last minute I didn't have a large enough container to make a 2L starter for an imperial stout, I made a one liter starter instead. Also when I pitched it, I used luke warm water to get the extra yeast out of the bottom of my growler. My questions are how mu h longer will it take to show signs of fermentation and did I kill my yeast off when I added water strait from the sink?

I would assume it would take as long as usual. 24-72 hrs. Healthier proper pitch count closer to 24. A packet of dry not hydrated probably closer to te 72. You'll probably fall somewhere between. Just my view. Adding water will not kill your yeast provided it's not boiling out of your tap.
