Getting officially broken in tomorrow with the 999 Barleywine. I hope those front wheels hold up under a 120 minute boil...

I was going to suggest outriggers and then I read Tallys suggestion of it. You could use 2x4 or 2x3 metal tubing, then bolt the tubing to the frame using the holes you drilled for the casters. Mount the tubing in the flat position which would enable you to use all the mounting holes for the casters.

Should not be a problem. I have the same wheels on my rig and it's all good (have had it a year)

My big concern was that the heat from my lower burner would be too close to the wheels, causing them to heat up and melt. I haven't had a problem with it so far, they get warm but nowhere near melting. Unfortunately, I need to lower my burner about three inches or so because I am getting incomplete combustion, so I hope that this doesn't cause any problems.

Get yourself some sheet metal and make a shelf under the burner to act as a heat shield.

Burner officially lowered...I was thinking about the whole heat shield thing, and I seem to remember my uncle telling me when he installed his wood burning stove that there is something like a fireproof drywall? Would it be effective/economical to mount a piece of this on top of the bottom of the stand to protect my tires? They were getting a bit hot originally, and now that I moved the burner down about four inches I'm worried about firing them up...

There is fireproof drywall, but it will smell real bad as it is not meant to be cooked

I would just use some sheet metal because it is super cheap and will look better. You could even paint it with high temp engine paint to match your stand. I would use self tapping screws to attach it and you are all set.

Just wear a dust mask or a respirator when you cut it. The dust contains silica, which can cause Silicosis.

TPChef, I saw your posts in ScubaSteve's thread.

I have worked quite a bit with Durock. It is pretty sturdy. You probably won't need and backing, depending on what your intent is for it.

Are you going to have any weight on it at all? Or is it merely to shield your tires from the heat of the burner?

Nah no weight, but depending on whether I go above or below the bottom piece of square tubing, there will be about 4-6" between the bottom of the burner and the surface of the rock....

looking good. Do the any of the wheels lock? Wouldn't want it rolling off on ya with 5-10 gallons of wort or especially the HLT overhead.

No they don't lock, but I'm not brewing anywhere that it would start rolling on me. If I ever needed to I guess I could just chock them.

Not sure but I have some of the Bayou burners like Lil' Sparky has and they take 1/8 inch black pipe. Best bet is take the burner to the hardware store and try all the different sizes until you find one that fits

You haven't gone straight black pipe into your burner have you? Don't you need an orifice to inject the gas right in?

The supplied orifices have a flare fitting that you have to pipe in to, not a pipe fitting. The use of the copper and flare fittings gets you some amount of movement that piping directly with pipe doesn't allow.

I was going to put one where the regulator connects to the black pipe and valves going into each burner. Will this not work? Do I need an orifice going directly into each burner or will one at the regulator work?

With the burners I've seen, you need a pipe to flare adapter to hook to the burner. You can't hook directly to the burner without an orifice in the burner and have it work.

I originally purchased a coupler to connect my regulator to my gas pipe from Ace hardware and for some reason it would not fit. I think that the threads are slightly different. I had to purchase one from B3. They looked identical when I held them up next to each other too.

The pipe fitting they show on the orifice screws into your burner. You have to go from your 1/2" pipe to flare and then go flare to your orifice.

Why not use this part instead of the brass propane orifice Burner Jet - 1/8 in. x 1 in. | MoreBeer, then you could change 1/2" X 3/8" coupling to a 1/2" X 1/8" coupling to hard pipe burner. The brass flare fitting does not match with pipe theads on flare end of fitting, might save some time to get pipe threaded orifice.

This won't work because my burner is not threaded at 1/8" it's threaded at 1/4".

Now I've realized that I need to go from Flare to NPT on the input side, from my regulator as well. I think that this job may make me almost as crazy as the stirplate project.
