Borrowed from reddit

i like the comments on the page /0 linked... i think it is funny that people are asking if this will actually sanitize the carboy. Don't they realize that this trick works because the carboy walls have been coated with rubbing alcohol.

I am not a big fan of drinking wood alcohol residue, but it should sanitize just as good as the cheap vodka i use in my airlock.

With the proper air/fuel ratio, one could probably create a substantial explosion doing that. Perhaps it's safer than it appears, but Murphy might get involved and you know how that sometimes goes.

Notice the opening of the bottle creates a nozzle? Well I was sanatizing my Erlemeyer flask this way when my roomate came home drunk. He said "Alcohol doesn't burn very hot!" and insisted to stick his finger in while I lit 151. He had a blistered finger for 10 days

Yeah, I was having the "alcohol burns hot" argument on the reddit page this morning :drunk:.

And it doesn't have to be wood alcohol, it could be everclear...

Anyway, I'm sticking with starsan. Less chance of blowing my ass up or shattering (another) carboy.

neat animation! But i got the air/mixture wrong once when i was screwing around way back in high school... of course that was what i was going for : )

It's a quick burn, I don't think it gets the surface hot enough to kill bugs though.

Yeah, when I do it with my flask it is after I am done using it, have washed it, and just as an extra sanatizing measure before storage (ok, I'll be honest, it is fun to pour 151 in it and light it)
