So I brewed beer with a Mr. Beer a couple years ago and wanted to get back into it, but decided to buy some real equipment. I figured I will just do 5 gallon batches to start with, but wanted the option to make boils for a 10 gallon batch. So for my brewpot, I decided on an 60 quart aluminum pot from one of the online restaurant suppliers. It's much nicer than I expected for a medium weight pot, quite thick and very sturdy. The problem is that it's HUGE! Is it going to be too big for 5 gallon batches?

A related question: I got a weldless ball valve kit for the pot. How far up from the bottom should I drill for the valve?

Thanks,
Frank

No problem, I use a 60 for my 5 gallon batches. Never had an overflow.

Measure the largest diameter part. Divide in half and add 1/2" to clear the curve.
