On Saturday I attempted my first 2 AG batch brew day. Had to replenish my Yooper's Pale Ale and tweaked the Dead Dog IPA.
Started with the IPA. After Doughing in, realized that I had forgot to attach my braid in my 10 Gallon MLT. CRAP! Quickly dumped the mash into my empty kettle, attached the braid and poured the mash back into the MLT. Had to add some hot water to hit my target temp. Whew......
My Dead Dog recipe calls for French Pressed Hops. While pressing the first runnings of hop tea, I CRACKED MY FREAKING PRESS. CRAP! It cracked below my hops and the strainer is tight so I managed to extract the 'TEA' without much worry.....Whew
All goes as planned and I mash out into my kettle and begin the batch sparge. Again, all went well and I ended up with 7.75 gallons in my kettle. Boiling away I begin to add my hops and realize, I FORGOT to attach my Kettle Screen to the inside of the kettle. CRAP! Finished the boil and cooled the wort. Used sanitized gloves to reach in and screw the damn Kettle Screen into place. Racked into Primary and hit my O.G. Target...Whew.....
The second brew went much smoother since I finally had my equipment ready. Until the morning......
Woke up to 2 fermenters in the closet and they were both pushing 80 degrees! CRAP! Quickly brought in my large Action Packer that could fit both fermenters and 15 gallons of cold water and brought the temps down. Whew.
All this time, I constantly reminded myself to RDWHAHB, but with a 2 brew day, I think I went through a 12 pack.
Wish me luck and thanks for letting me share.
