Back again and I think this is an issue with BrewersFriend... I added the recipe into Beer Smith and the numbers are more where they should be, still a little different from the thread, IBU=71.5, but more consistent. I will be brewing this today and looking forward to it!!

Thanks and Happy Brewing!

Mine took almost 2 weeks to reach final gravity with using two vials of yeast give it time it will reach it and it is well worth the wait promise

I racked it to a secondary on after two weeks. It's now day 19 and I'm sitting at 1.021 without much movement. I don't mind waiting longer, just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing.

My starting gravity was 1.078, a full .013 higher than the target of 1.065. I used 1.5 liters of healthy S-04 sludge from a Pale Ale that was just bottled.

can i change the Crystal 20 to Crystal 30?
maybe put less in? would that drastically change the beer taste notes?

Last time mine ended at 1.016 my original gravity was 1.087 because I add 14 oz of honey to mine at the start of the 90 min boil but I have never have used "sludge" or washed yeast so don't acc know if thats alot or not I know I use two vials and I have to put a rubber hose in the top of my carboy that I have tk c force in and use that instead of a rubber stopper with an airlock bc it blows the stopper out of the top if I don't. But I always was taught if the bubbling has stop or came to an almost stop give it two days send that's it rack it bc it isn't going to go down any more I'm sure yours will come out great let me know how the finish product is!!! I can't wait for min it's been siting in the carboy now for 9 days and is still just a bubbling away it has slowed down alot but sit active I'm gonna start another one as soon as it's day 4 in the secondary bc of how fast the first one went I don't want to be without this beer again lol

If this picture uploads this is how I do mine now

It's now at 1.020, so I'm encouraged by some slight movement. I went ahead and added some more healthy s-04 from a batch of Pale Ale that is currently fermenting at full steam. let's see what happens.

i love this recipe!

I use crystal 15 and NorthWest Ale 1332 yeast (which I guess makes it Englishey) when I brew this (about twice a month). I gonna try it next time with American Ale II next to compare.

Anyone else experiment with the yeast strains in this great IPA?

This recipe is my go to for all things ipa. I switch the hops and yeast almost everytime. I usually lager it when I am too busy to tend to the makeshift swamp cooler because my wife does not like to use the ac and it's too hot here in the desert to leave it out otherwise. Cry havoc or California lager. Whatever I have washed really. Turns out pretty tasty. I did get a couple Belgian versions in this winter. Still drinking one, I used Belgian golden ale yeast and a ton of New Zealand hops and it's damn good but the wlp 570 really doesn't accentuate hop flavors well.

I currently have a split batch going with Conan from Giga Yeast and Us-05. Brewed April 19, dry hopping now. I'll report back in a few weeks.

Fired off a batch on Saturday with a slightly modified Hop bill\schedule:

Chinook - 1oz - 30min
Amarillo - 1.5oz - 30min
Wai-iti - 1oz - 15min
Amarillo - 1.5oz - 15min
Wai-iti - 1oz - 5min

This was actually my first brew, ever. My brother helped me out with his BIAB setup. Pitched yeast on Monday night, overnight Tuesday the thing went crazy, had to swap out my blow off bucket.

Can't wait for the results.

Will brew this for the 1st time tomorrow. The brew store was out of Cascade so I substituted Centennial. About $80 for a ten gallon batch but there will be a good amount of left over Hops

We'll, a neighbor had a party, and we drank both halves of the batch, along with two other kegs of my brew.

Generally, the crowd preferred the Conan over the S-05. The Conan had a citrus taste absent from the US-05 version. I tasted it as lemon. The Conan was more crisp, perhaps a bit more thin, to me. They both finished at 1.010, so it was not a FG difference that accounted for the perceived difference.

I am very pleased with the Conan, it offers a nice change of pace from US-05. I will use it again, but may mash at a degree or two higher to maintain a bit more body.

By the way - I used the Giga Yeast version of Conan.

I brewed this recipe using the following adaptations and it turned out amazing!

We're living at 8000 feet in the Indian Himalayas, so it was good to bring a worthy IPA back home!

I was concerned about a stuck fermentation since the FG was holding at 1.016 for almost a week. Thanks to the advice on HBT, I bottled it and it is truly amazing...

Batch size: 60 Liters (almost 16 gallons)
32 Pale
5 Light Caramel
2 Munich
1 Wheat
Mash: 154 F
30 minutes: 2 Chinook, 4.2 Cascade, .8 Citra
15 minutes: 1. 4 Fuggle, 4.2 Cascade
10 minutes: 2 whirlfloc
5 minutes: 2.8 Fuggle
Dry (Secondary): 5.6 Citra
Safela S-04
Primary: 13 days
Secondary: 13 days
OG 1.078
FG 1.106

Just put this into the second fermentation and dry hopping it with my homegrown hops (Cascade). So far the taste is amazing without the "hoppiness" yet. Looking forward to the next stage. In 14 days I'll get to try it again as this recipe had a TON of sediment. It will require a third fermentation stage just to clear it out. :rockin:

Going to pick up the ingredients Friday and give this one a whirl. Can't wait to get it started! Haven't fired up the brew kettle in almost a year so from everything I've read this recipe definitely seems worthy!

I made my 1st batch of this 10 gallon pitched on 5/23/15 and kegged on 6/13/15. OG came in high at 1.070 and so did FG at about 1.018. I am no beer judge but after a week in the keg it seemed a little sweet and hoppy at the same time. I was a little disapointed but in the last week after 5 weeks in the keg it is really tasting great with the hops comming thru like some of the better commercial IPAs I have tried. My best comparrison would be Racer 5. I will brew this again with the grains cut back a bit.

Love this beer!

Brewed with both California ALe yeast and San Diego Super yeast and i prefer the later. Always a hit with my friends, actually brewing 10 gallons of this for my buddies wedding.

Hi Guys

Was keen to give this a go, has anyone put it up on beersmithrecipes.com? I might have to work out how to manually create a recipe in beersmith finally :)

Super easy. Load your equipment profile, add ingredients and set sparge method. Of course you can tweak from there...
