Gregorian Chant

Really? Awesome. I've got some really good Deller Consort gregorian chant that I'm going to listen to now because of this.

If I had to pick one, though, it would probably be the vaguest possible definition of "indie".

I listen to almost every style of music, except pop, new country, and opera. I would almost rather have no music at all than have to pick one for eternity.


OT: Does anyone here (especially those of you who picked Bluegrass or punk) listen to The Devil Makes Three? One of the best bands I've discovered in the last few years!

Only a half-joke, I actually really enjoy chant, but I doubt I could really listen to it only for the rest of my life. I love all music, even some hip-hop/rap, but I believe that if I could only listen to, say, even just one band/composer I think I can narrow it down to a few. I think I could survive on any one of the following for some time:
-The Who
-Genesis-from Gabriel through Pre-Su-Seudio Collins
-Mozart
-Haydn (although this last one might be replaced easily by Verdi)

Seems to be an unusual lot of bluegrass fans here. I've been down to Winfield for the huge Bluegrass festival a time or two, and it is some toe tapping stuff. But man, a lifetime of it on a deserted island? I'd take a coconut shot to the head after awhile.

Not meaning to denigrate bluegrass fans, love the music, but just not as the only choice. I love listening to and playing bagpipes too, but not as the last music on earth choice.

Another vote for the classic rock, 1967 to 1981 vintage.

Sticking to your OP Orfy, it would be rock. But narrowing it, would be Blues-Based rock. This applies to a lot of the English bands of the late 60's into the early to mid 70's, and the "Southern" rock of the mid to late 70's, to the current Houserockin' music being generated by a lot of blues based artists. In the end, I could be quite content to listening to every Zep album and concert bootleg for a very long time.

There are however, rock bands whose style is unique and I could quite spend a few years with as well... Rush has an epic, orchestral style, even when they got away from their theme albums, while Yes kept pushing art-rock further and further... Floyd is Floyd, and enough said....

In the end, too much to narrow down. :rockin:

Not Classic Rock that the radio stations play now, but the album rock they played back when it was popular.
I used to love it when the DJ said "let's play side #1 of (whatever)", then they would play the whole side.
That's why I listen to sirius16 most of the time

I'd like to poke my eardrums in with sharp sticks if I could only listen to one kind of music. Seriously.

If I had to pick an absolute favorite genre, it would probably be ambient. Rock would be next, only because it's such a BROAD category that it pulls in a LOT of stuff.
