I just got back yesterday from a week and a half trip to Vienna with a day trip to Salzburg. What a cool trip! Tons of history, beautiful architecture, music - and don’t get me started on the coffee and cakes.

And beer…there was a great variety of beer. I tried something new at every meal and then picked up cans or bottles from the grocery store on my walk back to the hotel each night. Half liter bottle of Augustiner helles for €1.25? Yes please!

I thought it was interesting the differences in beer “styles”. Had a number of Austrian märzens - they were pale gold, 5% abv and had a good bitterness to balance out. Very much more similar to what I would call a Dortmunder than what I would think of as a märzen. But again, delicious. I think my favorite beer of the trip was the helles at the Augustiner am Mülln brewery in Salzburg. I drank a liter of it before I realized. It was phenomenal and went down like water! I will say I have plenty of inspiration for the next few batches of beer!

Always great to try beer right from the source, and in Vienna! Bonus!!
