Thinking about trying something for a quick 5 gal batch- Appreciate any suggestions:

3.3 Lbs Muntons Old Ale LME
3.0 Lbs Muntons Light DME
1 cup Light Brown Sugar
1 oz Cascade ( or other low AA boiling hop?? )
1 oz Cascade for finish

Prime/carbonate with 1/2 lb Muntons Amber DME ( bottling)

Boil Malts/ Sugar/1 oz Cascade hops for for 25 minutes
Add 1 oz additional Cascade hop pellets for last 5 mins of boil
Chill.

Any recommendions for an appropriate dried yeast ?

Cheers !

Yes, avoid Muntons Old Ale, it tastes like it was mashed in an old car tyre:mad:

I'm not the only one to experience this.

Comments:- Very slow yeast. It was about 36hrs before any noticeable (vile smelling) action occurred. Virtually no head/condition, after 2 months it smelled & tasted like burnt plastic. THROWN AWAY!

I just finished a glass of Papazian's recipe for Avogadro's Expeditious Old Ale that uses Muntons Old Ale and some Cascade for finishing. The recipe says that it will be ready in 2-4 weeks...depending on how expeditious you are.

After 1 week in the bottle it tasted like old crap.

After 2 weeks in the bottle it tasted like young beer...and old crap.

After 3 weeks (tonight) in the bottle it tasted like a decent, flat English bitter.

After 4 weeks...we'll see...
