I've heard nothing but good things about ebay refactometers. And I hate morebeer.

What makes you dislike morebeer?

Too late now but thats the same one i sell for $38.

I looked at yours- and its not a dual scale. MoreBeer sells a dual scale. Correct me if I'm wrong. MoreBeer also states they have corrected the scale making it more accurate above 1.080.

Oops, sorry I looked again and your description states its a dual scale but the picture shows a single scale.

Yes, mine is dual scale, brix/SG.

So your telling me that the refractometers you sell for 38$ are the exact same as the morebeer model? Manufacturer and part number.

Personal preference, their Concord store is local and I dislike the dweebs behind the counter. Out of all of the local store near me they were the least helpful, more interested in flirting with my gf.

As petty as it may sound, at this rate that the hobby is growing one can be picky as I am with vendors.

Sorry for the snark, it's just that given the range of quality one can find on ebay, "ebay refractometer" didn't seem very descriptive.

Its fine. I don't think refractometers are such a complicated device to warrant anything than bottom dollar price. Hence a general eBay purchases refract should be fine. Overall I would go with bobby's product as I value customer service more than anything else and his is top notch. I've bothered him with more relatively pointless emails and he always responds.

Sorry I lost track of the thread. All of these dual scale units come from a handful of factories in China. I'm yet to find any significant difference in construction and I've gotten samples from at least 8 major distributors out of Hong Kong. They all have their own model numbers to keep end users from knowing exactly who's making them. The last few hundred units I've had shipped this year are all the same. The reason I suspect they are the same as Morebeer is because they claimed they worked with a large retailer in the U.S. to get the Brix to SG scale more accurate. Of course, I'm speculating but pretty confident.

Consider it a compliment I guess. MoreBeer is good for perishables (grain, yeast) and that's about it.

mux - beware the spin...
MoreBeer puts their part number on products because they can purchase in large volume. I live 2 miles from there shop and have been shopping there for 10 years. You have to pick and choose what you buy from them. Support the little guy I say. Buy from Bobby.

Thanks to all for the input. To Bobby, if I can cancel my order you have my business. I have bought sight glasses, cam locks and bulk heads from you and appreciate your help.

I'll never understand why a refractometer has a SG scale. Seems to cause more confusion to the user than anything else.

59$ for "their" refractometers. I could by the exact model on eBay for 25$ w/ free shipping.

This is what I was talking about with model numbers not really meaning anything. The one you got from morebeer has a hardcase and the NIS one is a softcase. The odds of them being manufactured by the same company are probably 1 in 10, but one thing I noticed about the picture on the NIS auction is that the brix to SG alignment is not right. Maybe the picture is old though.

I sent them an email! Their are far to many good retailers out their to deal with this bull****. I'm glad they are on the other end of the country! I'm steaming!
