Heres the deal ,, as the only one who drinks beer in my home im finding 5 gal batches are a bit much ( for me ) when having to bottle and find space in fridge for bottles after conditioning and to be honest thats alot of the same flavor especially if it didnt turn out good to start with ,, im looking to start doing 2.5 - 3 gal. Batches instead , I have a couple 10 gal round igloos that are perfect for 5 gal batches but im thinking it will be to big for the 2.5 - 3 gal. For the simple fact that the grain bed would be to thin for a good clean run off (Lauter) and the extra head space affecting holding temps ,, am i onto something or over thinking it ??
I do have an old 5 gal (blue) Igloo water jug we use for hunting and camping id just have to put a bulkhead and screen in it ,, again im thinking the thicker grain bed would be beneficial for filtering the wort better ......

Assuming you're batch sparging a couple extra vorlaufs should take care of anything sizeable before you drain the wort. And if temperature loss is an apparent issue you could make an insulated mash cap (foam board encased in plastic wrap) that should hold pretty well...

Cheers!
