Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has brewed a micro size batch ( 1 gallon ) to check flavor profiles?
I am attempting a smoked Porter and want to see which smoked grain suits me best.
Suggestions?

Did brew many 2l batches in pet bottles to test multiple gruit herbs.
What do you need suggestions for?
 
Miraculix, suggestion I am looking for would be an open invitation to have anyone give me their 10 cents worth of opinion, ideas, etc....
In this case what equipment did you all use?
Not a full sized 6.5 primary fermenter , right?
Where there any mash bill adjustments? Or is the recipe linear? I.e 2.5 pounds of 2 row for a 5 gallon batch scaled down to 0.5 pounds v.s. 0.65 pounds.
Don't pitch dry yeast . Things like that.

Ah, Ok. Everything scales linearly down and you can basically use every smaller airtight container an airlock fits into. Some pet bottles work if you cut the rubber of the air lock a bit or you can use demi jons for 1gallon batches. Everything else works the same way as with bigger batches.
 
I've fermented small batches in large pickle and mayonnaise jars. Mashed 8 different 1/2 gallon batches in 4 cooking pots in a warm oven, all concurrently/staggered. That was one busy afternoon, with not a whole lot of beer in the end. But it (mostly) served the purpose what I was after: How do all these malts taste by themselves!

People have added a few pellets (as dry hops) to bottles of Kolsch to train their hops perception. The bottles were recapped then stored for a week or so. Strain through a very fine mesh sieve, or a small strainer lined with voile.
